They should match their own online prices. I never had an issue when asking about doing that. I know they wont always match other retailers online pricing which is understandable.

Last time I shopped there I looked everything up online and told them the price BEFOREHAND. if there was any confusion, I had THEM look at it on their site. No prolblems...

About the only thing I buy at BB anymore is if there are any cheap($7.99 etc.) blu ray movies available that week ,hate paying anymore than $10.00 for them these days. Anywho, when I find something and take it to the counter, they try and charge me the rediculous retail price and I have to tell them ,no, it's $7.99 on the BB website, then the cashier has to page the manager to come and verifyand this may hold up a line 2 or 3 minutes. C'mon!!! Get it together BB!

Service is horrilbe there, and the associates do not have much knowledge. I guess this is what happens when they are salaried and not on commission.

Paying commission doesn't necessarily mean the associates will have knowledge either. As an example, take a look at the early days of Circuit City when the associates were paid on commission. I certainly didn't find them to be any more knowledgeable compared to when they became salaried. In fact, the only thing they were good at was relentlessly hounding the customers. When they got rid of the commission, the knowledge stayed the same (lousy), but at least you could shop in relative peace.

No, the real problem boils down to the hiring process and training. Large chain stores such as BB simply don't care about hiring the most qualified people, they just care about having warm bodies that can regurgitate the company rhetoric and follow simple instructions. Not to mention, their pay doesn't tend to attract quality employees anyway. In addition, they don't train their employees properly to include product knowledge. And, the type of employees they hire aren't going to bother learning it on their own. If BB really wanted to have employees with proper product knowledge, they would need to improve the hiring process and provide proper training.

Lets not forget they would have to pay them a better wage. Not gonna happen. You get what ya pay for.

Good point as well. Training and knoledge goes a long way, but not on a poor salary with no motivation whatsoever.

This is true as well. But, I'd say a higher salary would be a better option over commission. Commission is nice in theory, but seems to bring out the worst in people; just look at car salesman!

So, I think we can agree that it is a combination of pay, training and the people they hire. I doubt they care, so I'm sure it will remain this way until they run themselves out of business.

Best buy will be gone soon enough, but don't worry audiophiles, Walmart will be there to pick up the slack.
HAHAHA, I Actually like Walmart. I would shop in a hi-tech store like a Sound Advice(now demised), down to a corner thrift store with no problems.

I don't what you mean, I don't shop there. In fact I frequent very few B & M stores unless\ Can't remember the last time I bought anything at BB. I bought a new fridge, washer, dryer, lawn mower all from Sears with exception \.

If I don't have to go to the actual store and deal with idiot sales people, other rude customers, etc.........all the better. Plus it saves me time.END QUOTE.

I agree with the above statement.but, I did buy last year a TV Stand from BB which is a little to high for my 60". that's my fault for having a TV that has a bad viewing angle. it's brighter dead center. a very good TV and TV Stand. BB Customer service is awful,in my experience.

Best Buy is a dying breed and they certainly haven't helped their cause in the past 5 years or so. You'd think the elimination of Circuit City would have lit a fire under them, but it didn't. I fully admit even if the staff and product was top notch, I'd still shop on-line. No lines, no idiot customers, no parking hassles, much less time wasted. So in a sense in my case it's not entirely BB's fault I don't shop there.END QUOTE

I Still like to go into a store and touch things.just going in there and looking around is fun to me... I bought my 505 polk Sub from online.therefore, I'm into online shopping as well.

Slightly off the record but a couple years ago I applied at Best Buy because I have always enjoyed working with electronics and was always quite knowledgeable in what was offered at that consumer level. It was also a great opportunity to earn some part time income doing what I loved!

However, they failed my application because I was too honest... wtf? You'd RATHER have some 16 year old working for you who don't give two sh!ts, probably steals and doesn't care to make people happy? Not sure what THEIR priorities are...

FYI... I'm a security manager/site supervisor. I've been in this field for over 7 years. To this day I still shake my head...

I hear what you're saying Drenis, things that make you go hmmmm??? We used to have some Home Entertaiment stores(not sure how big of a chain they were) here in H town. They were a very nice store that sold higher end A/V gear than most of the discount a/v stores. One of the great things about the stores were the knowledgle salesforce. In the 70's ,I didn't buy much from HE because they rarely discounted anything unless it was on clearance. I noticed in the 90's ,HE was trying to compete with the discount stores more and I bought more items from them. Eventually HE stores became Tweeter stores and after a few years they went out of business here. I'm sure BB and online shopping had something to do with it. A couple of weeks later, it was sad to see one of the very knowlegable former Tweeter salesman working at the BB in the a/v dept.

Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn has resigned. Sometimes when this happens the stock (BBY)can get a bump up just on a change ,but we'll see.

Based on BestBuy's recent press, I'd expect a good bump up in their stock unless the market's still tanking after Friday's jobs news.
