Susan & I went to a recently-opened consignment shop in the next town over from us (Littleton) today. It's in an old garden shop. Out in the old greenhouse I had the misfortune to espy a very vintage Tandberg 64 stereo reel to reel deck for thirty smackers. It's here now. Needless to say, it doesn't work - but it is in good physical shape, and it does have panache and potential. It also came with four reels of tape (albeit cheapie "Audiotape" brand) - one still sealed.

Wonder if the original tubes are still inside? :-) That's a project for another day; they're not quite trivial to take apart...

It can keep my mono Tandberg 92 (which does work, albeit not as well as it should) company, I guess.

Pretty cool Mr. H. I picked up my 1st reel to reel yesterday and have no idea how to use it, but it did power on. It's an Akai 1710W 4ch tube piece. I have always thought the reel to reels would be fun to try and saw this one on CL near me for very little money and could not resist bringing it home along with the Lafayette LR-4000 4ch receiver it was paired with. She even threw in about 15 tapes for free.

Very sweet deck, Mr. H. love the "magic eye" record level indicator and the "shift lever" transport control. I believe the internal flywheel is either copper coated or made from solid copper. Inside the Tandbergs are so mechanical they look like they could be steam powered.
    Enjoy your rescue!

Very cool piece of history, FTR, I love magic eyes. I have a small tube amp that uses one for output level indicator. Love watching it bounce

I did, plus there was tax.
The deck does appear to be full of Telefunkens, as it should be...
