Question: What was the scariest movie you ever saw???

Someone asked me this, and the only movie I could think of was the Japanese horror movie "Ringu" which was remade into the Naomi Watts movie, "The Ring". And as I was thinking, it appears that Asian horror movies seem to be scarier than American ones.

Are there any movies that you can think of that scared the crap out of you? That made you not want to go to sleep that night?

Really? See I never understood what the draw was with that movie. To me it was an over hyped low budget waste of a movie. I didn't see a thing scary about that one.

Normally, I do not watch these types of movies since I prefer Science Fiction. But, I have to admit The Ring did a good job of giving me the creeps. I tried to watch the second one, but my Netflix rental wouldn't play, and I took that as an omen to not watch it.

And the strangest too. It's as if a paranoid schizophrenic dropped bad acid, then feel asleep, and had a gut-wrenching nightmare, and you are watching it.

The Changeling with George C. Scott and The Ring.

The Ring freaked me out. I went to a midnight showing all alone because family did not want to see it. All the way home I checked the seat to make sure no one was there.

I'd have to say the Excorsist based on the time it came out, the age I was and the fact I believe, to a much lesser extent than the movie portrayed, possesion and ghosts do exist in some form. The premise of the movie still freaks me out today, but not as much as when I was a kid.

Rumor has it Linda Blair had to undergo psychiatric treatment after filming because she was so young and the subject matter involved and the graphic depictions, etc.

I also remember the Amityville Horror since I was a kid at that time as well. Not only the movie, but the headlines in the paper and the news accounts.

Nighmare on Elmstreet was a big deal when I was younger (late teens) as well, the first one was so well done, it gave nightmares for a longtime

Again, most of these references were back when I was a kid or in my teens and one gets scared and carried away much more when they are younger and you have friends also feeding into the ideas, etc.

At my age now, not sure there is a scary Hollywood type movie that is nothing more than entertainment.

I have to say, if you haven't seen Event Horizon, and you've got a kick-butt home theater system with a huge screen, rent that movie, turn out all the lights, and prepare to be scared. It's a sci-fi horror, and man is it good. Not only one of the scariest, one of the best IMO.

I'd put The Grudge as a close second, but that's another one of those polarizing films like Blair Witch. Either you got into it and really loved it (and were scared by it) or you didn't. I also really liked Blair Witch.

Movies that scared me when I was a kid were The Blob, Cujo and Poltergeist.

I wish they would remake The Blob with modern CGI.
Poltergeist freaked me out as a kid even though we watched some of it being filmed as it was a 5 minute bike ride from my house.

I'm kind of meh on the CGI. I prefer puppets and miniatures. The old Star Wars is a million times better than any of the new Star Wars IMO. I think they did a fabulous job with The Blob considering it was made in 1958.

Scariest movie, sober: "Kids" IIRC, it was never released in theaters, because it was THAT disturbing.
Not sober: "Apocolypse Now" tripping on acid. NOT a good combination:eek:
I had to take a wiz, and was so paranoid, I wouldn't use the restrooms. Walked out a fire exit, and I could voices off in the distance. I thought they were VC, and cowered in the shadows, next to my friends car, until they came out:redface:
