there was a reason: The bases on my 1c's were literally falling apart.

I removed them and put shorter screws into the existing screw holes that held the base on. The spikes are mounted directly onto the speaker box. I got great results.

What you are describing is the platform at the bottom of your 1C Studio versions, it's actually not the base of the cabinet. If the platforms were falling apart it is because someone didn't treat the speakers well.

Do we need to spike the SDS-SRS also?

    IMO, they would benefit greatly.

The platform on mine just didn't seem like they would stand up to much torque if I moved the speakers by 'walking' them into position or inadvertently putting any sideways pressure on them especially on carpet. So off they came. I took care not to drill through the base, put in anchors and screwed the spikes in. I started with Brass but made them a little small, ended up using aluminum and over sized them with an extremely fine tip to go through the carpet and padding.
The first photo is the speaker tipped back to show the spike that is not the appearance of them when standing straight.
The second photo shows the platforms and the corners look like they are held together with a lot of hope and that is about it. Call me cautious.
