Side Clearance for CSi A6?

Does anyone happen to know about how much side clearance is needed for a CSi A6 center channel?

I just ordered one, and in some of the pictures I noticed that the rear firing ports have the plates over them to reduce chuffing (power port technology, I believe). It looks like the air coming from the ports may get projected out to the sides a bit, and I plan on putting the speakers in a cabinet with only 1 inch of clearance on each side, and about 2-3 inches of clearance on the top. The rear of the cabinet will be open, as I plan to remove the back panel for that section.

The cabinet is also solid wood / veneer, so I imagine I may have to do some sound deadening if there are any resonance issues? (provided there is even room for it).

Mark - I had my Csi A6 in a pocket in my cabinet set up. Pretty much same as what your describing with minimal side clearance and open back. I also have a closet right next to the cabinet on one side. The sound was great, but after getting a flat screen, I was able to eliminated the pocket and now the center channel is sitting on top of the cabinet, free and open. There was a definate improvement in the center sound. I think I just had alot of sound bouncing around behind the cabinet and against the closet wall. If you get any echoing or reverb in your set up, try adding a sound absorbing panel behind the speaker, that should fix it. Otherwise, enjoy !!!

I have mine built into a wall unit. Never knew it needed air space on the top and sides.

Does it Change the sound if it's got more room around it?

I don't believe the top and sides have any affect on sound, and you already know the port guards on the rear ports allow you to get it close to a wall or anything of substance.

I think as long as the A6 isn't recessed inside the cabinet, you'll be just fine. And, "you'll be fine" is exactly what the first reply to the original question was.

Thanks again gents, it looks like it won't be a concern. I had thought having the port so near to something might cause "chuffing" (which I have never experienced on a ported speaker BTW, have only had problems with it on a leaky sealed subwoofer).
