Any thoughts or feedback on these speakers? I have the opportunity to pick up a pair; not for cheap, but I can make it work if they are worth it. I've heard big, dual concentrics like these sound good; my limited experience was with a pair of thee way KEF speakers with the tweeter integrated into the mid. I've heard a lot of chatter on here about big Tannoys, and I know that they come in a lot bigger than these. I would assume that they need to be paired with a subwoofer as they are "bookshelf" type speakers; although quiet large.

Any thoughts would be great!

They sound very nice. A little forgiving and laid back, and are also very efficient. You're also correct about pairing them with a sub. You can't have high efficiency and deep extension without a cabinet the size of a coffin.

What do you think a good pair are worth?

I believe around $700-800 is the norm.

Do you know what the differences between the 10 and the larger models are? I know this came in 12 and 15 inch as well.

    Thanks for all the help!

larger models did deeper and are more efficient. The 15's are huge though.

I know they will not be as efficient as my Klipschs and will not dig as deep, but my 40wpc EL34/6L6/KT88 amp should be well enough power and I would assume tubes and Tannoy are a good combo.

Your tube amp should be fine for the 10's.

I'm currently biamping my klipschs with 250wpc ss on the woofers and 40wpc tube on the horns. Would the Tannoys benefit from the same amplification?

    Maybe, maybe not. :P

Tannoy, as well as most Klipsch, are fine with tubes alone. Although, I believe the larger Tannoys(15"), sound better with SS amps.

Any idea what subwoofer would pair well with a pair of Tannoys besides Tannoy (I would assume)?

Any high quality sub, REL, Velo, etc...

    Hey Zingo,

I like those 10's quite a bit. Had those in a nearfield monitoring situation many years ago. They imaged like crazy! Only complaint I had was a little bit of a bump down low...probably around the port freq. If I remember right, around 50-55hz. They were well positioned, so don't think anything physical was contributing. However, amps or wiring could perhaps play into that.

Also, while they aren't bad efficiency wise, I think generally that they are thought of as doing well with greater than the minimum power.

Funny you should bring these up...I keep looking at them on eBay and remembering them with more than a little desire! If a pair of 10's or 12's popped up close enough to avoid paying shipping, it'd sure be hard to turn down!

I'd be curious what you think, if you get them, how they sound in a more typical room setting and how any LF augmenting works out!
