If I were you I would save my money and hold out for some nicer speakers. Nicer being just about anything besides those models.....my opinion of course. But if I HAD to chose one of those, then the D9's I guess.--Gary--

I'd pick the Infinty's in that scenario, are these for the Hello Kitty system? :cheesygrin:Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Have to go with Steve. Get the Infinity's.

I need them for a low watt tube amp, so i gotta have something super efficient. I do have some Polk SDA 2bs for my home system, lol...just sayinHello Kitty am/fm CD player

They may be sensitive but they will sound like total crap.
If you have to choose I say the Infinities. -
Hmm, what would you suggest?.. I have some tannoy c-10 @ 94db, but they just arent cutting it. i really need something around 100 db?Hello Kitty am/fm CD player

Why do you think you need such high sensitive speakers ? Are you using a super low powered amp ?
Klipsch may be up your alley.HT SYSTEM-

You have Tannoy's and your thinking about Cerwin Vegas? Albeit the Tannoys aren't there top line they are still much better sounding.
And don't forget that every manufacturer makes there own criteria for sensitivity test. I would bet that the Tannoys are actually more sensitive than than either of the other two. Don't let the specs fool you.
Lets start this thread off better.
What are you running them with? Amp, Turntable, CD, What? Give us the rundown. I know it's a tube setup but what? -
Don't know that model of Infinity but what are the CVs? Cerwin Vs are usually pretty efficient loads to drive for their size.
What's the wattage on your amp? 8-15 watts x 2? More, less?
Also, the amp is NOT cutting it on 94 db Tannoys? How is that. even at a watt or so you should be that output SPL? Which should be plenty loud in a mid-sized room. What's your space look like?

Sorry, I made mistake on the infinity, they are sm 155, i dont know how diff that is from sm 152.. and to answer your question about the amp it is only 3 watts per channelHello Kitty am/fm CD player

The "SM" Infinities are pretty awful.
-
A 3 watter eh....Go Klipsch or some other horn speaker.
Wouldn't it make more sense to get a better amp than chasing down speakers to fit a 3 watter ? Just my .02 Flea amps, as we like to call them, can sound good but they take alot more effort into pairing with just the right speaker.HT SYSTEM-

Get a pair of Klipsch Synergy B2 bookies, they would sound good on that tube amp is it a Jolida? Give those Vegas 120 watts and piss your neighbhorhood off not the most accurate sounding speakers but those d9's can get mighty loud.Home Theater

Never in my life have I heard of someone building a stereo around an amplifier...
Best of luck to you...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Perhaps you're living a "sheltered" life? Just kidding.
I can "understand" what might be going on here because I spent a lot of my childhood listening to my most prized possession--a 10 transistor AM Radio made in Taiwan! If you're poor or on a limited budget and you've got a nice, albeit, flea amp whose sound you love (ask mhardy--if I'm not mistaken he has one of those running some Altecs?) then you might just want to look around for a highly efficient speaker (like a Klipsch or the Altecs mhardy has, that if I'm not mistaken have an efficiency of over 100db) that might be a good match for your amp.
Surely, in this hobby, there are "all" kinds of mixes and matches and not merely "one" appropriate course of action or movement forward. As well as some steps back, sometimes?
If the problem is as I specify it above: then more power to the OP!
And you might want to PM mhardy6647. Or maybe he'll show up here?

This is not my only system, just my hobby today, lol... I bought the Infinitys, and the CV's I pick up the cv;s on thursday, wasnt room in my car for both. Anyway the infinitys make the amp come alive, and Crazy Loud on my Yamaha solidstate amp, The speakers were worth 100 bucks if I just use them to throw my dirty clothes on, and prob great party speakers. thank for all the inputHello Kitty am/fm CD player

It all depends on the amplifier.Perhaps you're living a "sheltered" life? Just kidding.

I can come up with plenty of options that'll sound great with a fleapower amp for 100 smackers... but they'll be short on bass. IMO, the rest of the spectrum can easily make up for it, but some folks just crave that thump. A powered subwoofer is a cost-effective way to have one's cake & eat it, too, but of course adds to the cost.
Big sound from high sensitivity speakers is, of course, easy to come by (awesome broadband dynamics is what the big boys do best)... but not for cheap (unless one gets very lucky). -
Got both eh? I hope you have some understanding neighbors! I've been yearning for a pair of D9's but none ever come up around here for what I'm willing to give for them. $100 is a bargain. Yes I know they are "party" speakers, but the 16 year old inside me gets all giddy when I think what I could do with a pair of them & my Adcom 555. lol!

I did get them both, the cv are 101db and the infinity's 102 db.. they are both crazy loud, and some serious bass.. I got over that in about two minutes and im back downstairs listening to my SDA'a againHello Kitty am/fm CD player
