Reloaded Bass

Does anyone have a device which can measure Hertz? There are a couple scenes in Reloaded where you can feel the bass "ripple" across the room. (I didn't notice this sensation in the first Matrix) One scene in particular, is the bullet-time sequence of the shootout between an agent and Trinity while she is falling backwards out the window. A couple of times when the guns are fired in this slow mo sequence, I can feel the bass move through my seating. What Hertz level is this? I wish I had a device to measure bass frequencies, does Radio Shack have anything like that? I'm using a Polk 505 subwoofer.

    what you are refering to is called a spectrum analyzer.

    For that, I'd just buy another subwoofer and make guesstimates!

    Im sure if you search online eventually people will post analysis of specific scenes so you dont have to buy it and test it yourself. Besides who cares what frequency it is, all you should want to know is how to play whatever frequency it is louder and clearer. For that RS sells SPL meters (use a compensation table for lower frequencies) that should tell you how you are doing.

    Doc's got a disc made from a net download (I think it's dead now) that runs 30+ test tones in the 10 - 100 Hz range (if memory serves). Anyway it and an RS meter can determine what your sub is doing way down there...

    Also vaguely remember someone here buying a software package that did spectrum analysis, but damned if I can remember the details...

    if you have a comp in your ht you can use a program on it but i dont know how good htey are and where to get them.

    Most (not all) of the loud Matrix bass is in the 35-40 Hz region. Not terribly deep and pretty non-descript as bass goes. Just moving a lot of air for special F/X.

    Minor Spoilers Ahead:








    There are more subtle effects in the movie that are much deeper and have more character.

    Like when they first get to Zion and are chatting shipside, there is a very deep (probably around 22 Hz) steady rumble in the background (to give the impression of a huge and powerful docking station) - that was pretty cool.

    The ship hovering at the end was extremely loud and pretty deep.

    i have a comp[ in my HT room...which also happens to be my bedroom lol.

    if someone wants to find me the programs i need i will analyze the dvd for you.

    why couldnt u just play the dvd in your comp though? just because your comp speakers wont be able to play it( excluding the person with an svs sub on their comp lol) doesnt mean the signal isnt still coming from the dvd so it should show up if you tried to analyze it right?

    I don't know. I'll just be happy with knowing that it has "really low bass" in some parts. This thread has got me thinking about getting a RadioShack SPL meter just for fun though..
