    Welcome to Club Polk!

Stick around, some Monitor 10s are bound to turn up. But you need to get that post count up so you can PM the seller when they do!

Thanks, I have a pair of the 5's now ... just looking for an upgrade ... although the 5's do sound sweet with a powered sub :)

Are you looking for 10's, 10A's, or 10B's? i.e which tweeter are you looking for?

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

My 5's have the "Silver" tweeter, and I like the way they sound. So educate me quickly, lol ... on what model that might be.

Peerless tweeters are the most sought after. They would be in Monitor 10As. They are fabric black with a pinhole in the middle. You can, though, upgrade the silver versions SL-2000/2500 to a tweeter considered as good or better than the Peerless still sold by Polk for about 50 dollars a pop. The RD-0194 or RD-0198 depending on which version of the silver dome the 10s have.

So either way. Find the 10As, you can keep them as is. 10Bs or 10Cs (if you like the SL tweeters, OK), if you want to upgrade the tweeters--RD series! The new tweeters are drop-in replacements-so pretty easy.

Would probably need pictures to know for sure, but it may be the SL2000 tweeter. IMO, the tweeter is very harsh sounding compared to say the RDO-194 replacement tweeter.

Many people think the peerless tweeter is the best found in the monitor series. This is found in the 10's and some 10A's. Have you heard the monitors (or other Polk models) with different tweeters (i.e. peerless, SL1000, SL2500, SL3000, RDO-194, RDO-198) in them?

    Thanks Hr.

Forgot about the 10s and the SL-1000s. I assumed that there are not many SL-3000s 10s around (but I could be wrong).

He's heard some version of SL-2000s or 2500s (is my guess) in his Monitor 5s?

Just passed on a pair of mint 10B's off the Louisville CL for $60. Was trying to be considerate to a family that really needed the money and I new they would go for a bit more. They ended up selling later in the day for $100 and my show back up on the CL if you're interested...keep and eye out, however, that may be too much after shipping. These were perfect in every way.

Adam, I think the way to go is to find a pair of Monitor 10As (or other early Monitor 10 model) with the Peerless tweeter. I have two pair myself (which I am keeping) and can tell you that the Monitor 10As are incredible and the Peerless tweeter is amazing. You really should get the Monitor 10 with the Peerless tweeter if you can. Don't get me wrong, other Monitor 10s (such as 10Bs) sound great too but the Monitor 10As with the Peerless tweeter are the best of the Monitor 10 series. I will always keep them.

Adam, (sorry for double post but...) you might also want to consider the Monitor 7As. They also have the Peerless tweeter and would also be an upgrade from your Monitor 5s. Some people like the Monitor 7s even better than the Monitor 10s (and Matthew Polk has even been quoted as saying it is his favorite speaker of the Monitor series). While the Monitor 7s do have better imaging than the Monitor 10s and do sound fantastic (I own a pair of Monitor 7As as well), I personally prefer the Monitor 10s for overall sound and for better bass , etc. But it is a matter of taste and preference because both the Monitor 7s and 10s are fantastic speakers!

why not go for Monitor 12 instead? It's crazy good. I bought a set on CL for $75, then sold them a few weeks later for $300.
