Nice Try Turbo Tax

I usually use Turbo Tax because I am familiar with it. This year's version is quite annoying, as they try to hit you for an extra 30.00 to have the Turbotax fee taken directly out of your refund (vs. paying with a credit card). You pretty much have to 'opt out' of authorizing them to take their fee directly out of your refund (and thus avoiding the add. fee). Nice try, Turbo Tax weasels! :frown:

You make it sound like they tricked you. I just got done filing with TT and the cost is right there on the screen, no hidden boxes or disclosures. Right there in black and white on the screen. I guess I don't understand why you think it's shady. I didn't have to "opt out", just chose "pay with credit card", those were the only two options.

I could not get Turbo Tax to load this year, tried different browsers, tried clearing cookies, everything - nada nothing.

Went HR Block, seemed to be about the same.

Ummm, the way the 30.00 fee automatically populated the 1st payment screen, until I had to hit a button to 'opt out' (notice the use of ' vs. " around opt out) and pay with a credit card....my point was more along the line that I could see many people just 'accepting' the fee vs. questioning it.

That didn't happen to me. When the payment screen came up it gave two options 1) take it out of the return and in smaller letters below the option it listed the fee 2) pay by credit card. I had to choose one, no opt out or misdirection.

Well, at least you figured it out before ol' Timmy did. Maybe that qualifies you to be Treasury secretary.

Perhaps the difference is online vs CD version? I do get what he's saying, though, even though I haven't seen it. All of these tax tools have FREE written everywhere... It's much harder to see when there's a FEE.

Could be, I don't know. Also anyone who has used Turbo Tax in the past should know there are strict limitations on FREE filing. But yes, you have to read everything before agreeing.

I have used TT for years. Now that I have a MAC I need to use the on-line version which is no big deal. At no time did it ask for the payment to be taken out of my refund. With that being said, it may work well for some folks, especially for those that do not have a CC. Good program IMOP.

TT has had an ad for that service for as long as I can remember. Click and move on, no skin off of my back.
