Hello fellow polkies. I am need of some assistance in regards to the above subject. I am trying to help my little step-brother with his car audio set up. He is thinking of have two 12" Treo subs installed, and I believe two Treo amps as well. The front stage from what I understand are Kicker coaxs I think. I think 6 1/2... At any rate outside of my own knowledge of different brands, I honestly dont know anything about this brand. I was hoping that mybe someone on here has used their stuff, and might be able to give me an idea of if they are good or not. I am also up for anyother suggestions as well that would be with in the same lines as Treo. To give you an idea fo vehicle:

97 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 extended cab 5.9L 360ci V8 Magnum

His current HU:
Pioneer AVIC-D3

Also please keep in mind that he is 16-17 yr old teen, so SQ may not be his first thought, and probably leaning more toward SPL. I am however trying to get him to understand that having good SQ is better than SPL, but I have a feeling he is going to want that SPL to show off. You know how it is with teens, go loud or go home lol. So, outside of the Polk SR's (which are hard to find now), there are the MM's. I know of Morel, Image Dynamics, Focal, JL audio, and Rockford Fosgate. (There are more on my list, but I am having a brain frat). At any rate some thoughts, and suggestions needed on this one so I can give him options. I will try to grab the line of the sub, and amps here shortly. Thanks for your help, and support guys, and girls.

Thanks.

Yap, MMC6500 is one hell of a set SPL or SQ. for the price of $100 (correct me if i'm wrong Skip) it's a GREAT set! Very loud, punchy, bass-y yet accurate and detailed. Will def beat the crap out of whatever Kicker coax you have in mind.

for sub i would go with a fi audio for its really cheap, daily driver and very high spl a friend has gone through them and the really good one i have experienced so far is the sp4 i really like the build quality and when you push that many watts sq doesent matter but it still hits the notes pretty good impresses the hell out of me but i would stick to sr or w6 XD

Not trying to be a kill-joy but, make sure the young man is aware what continuous high sound pressure levels can do to his hearing.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Sorry guys. I have been super busy, and just got back from my wedding anniversary vacation. Well he already has the Kicker front speakers in. He is going to a shop that will install both 12's, and box, and two amps into his truck for like 700 give or take. I have mentioned the hearing loss due to prolonged spl, but hey he is a teen so, that may go in ear, and out the other. I did metion FI subs too, but I dont think the shop he is going to has those speakers. I might get him to put in the MMC6501's if I can, but I have to sit and talk to him more about it. Any thoughts on the brand though?

    Thanks.

Well I think his budget is like $1,000 at the most I think.... It is a full sized truck that is an extended cab so, plenty of room under the back seats, and if I guess he needed to he would use the whole back area.

    Thanks.

In that case, i would prob recommend 3 Alpine type R 8" subs in a ported enclosure under the seat.

They can be had at 100 bucks a pop on amazon. You wont get much more bang from ur buck. PUN Intended. :)

Check out the soundstream RUB1600.1 On amazon as well. 200 bucks for a good quality amp that puts out 1100 watts at 2ohm.

That would provide great power to those type Rs and you would be well under the budget.

ask around. the alpine 8" Type R is a very respected sub SPL and SQ wise. If i wasn't going with a single Type SR12 i might go for 2 of them myself.
