Spikes on M70s/PSW505

Hi, I live in an apartment with thick carpet and would like to change the cheap plastic spikes that come with my M70s with better ones.
There's a couple reasons:
- Speakers aren't perfectly horizontal;
- Cat jumps on speakers all the time and I'm worried they will fall...
- Current spikes stick out to the side, which limits the angle at which i can place them;
- Improve sound quality? (Not sure how much of a difference this will make, from what I've read it's debatable...)
- Looks?
Anyway, Has anyone changed their spikes on M70s or PSW505? If so are there already holes for them and what diameter are they? Otherwise, I guess I'll just drill a hole and use a kit with threaded inserts.
I'm thinking about getting these: http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-DSS3-G-Gold-Spike/dp/B003BFRDE2/ref=pd_cp_e_2
Any opinion/suggestion is welcome
Thanks,
- Olivier
Ooooh, just thought about something else. I currently use an Ikea AV cabinet without feet as those looked horrible. Maybe I could get some extra spikes and put them on the cabinet. It could give a nice unified look. What do you think? Here are some example of spikes used on furniture I've found:

It's not debatable, the use of proper spikes will improve the sound. That said, just about any metal spike with a sharp point will work for you. Not sure why the small outriggers limit the angle for you. They are used for added stability as the cabinets are so narrow. You should try to retain them, not to mention that is where the spikes are screwed into. The thread pattern is 1/4-20.Political Correctness'.........defined

Hey F1nut, so I ordered spikes yesterday and when I got home I unscrewed the plastic spikes that come on the M70s. To my surprise there's no 1/4-20 thread there. The spikes were just using 2 regular screws.
As far as the placement of the plastic spikes: while the plastic does stick out to the side, the actual touch point with the ground is under the speakers. Therefore switching to better spikes won't/shouldn't affect stability, on the contrary since it will go through the carpet it should help quite a bit.
I guess I'll just have to drill some holes and use the inserts, no biggy.

Interesting. I stand corrected, thanks!Political Correctness'.........defined

Were you thinking RTi A? Because that's how the towers are set-up; threaded spikes 1/4-20 into the plastic feet. -
I actually find it surprising there's no threading on the M70s, it doesn't seem too far fetch that someone would want to change those spikes.
No big deal at all though.Main System:

Yeah, I thought they were the same or very close. Obviously, that's not the case.I actually find it surprising there's no threading on the M70s
So, are the plastic points an integral part of the small outriggers?Political Correctness'.........defined

F1Nut, I'll receive the new spikes on Wednesday and will install them then. When I do so I'll take some before/after pictures for reference of how the plastic spikes are mounted.
What i'm wondering now is how close to the edge I can drill the holes for the new spikes. Obviously I don't want to get too close and crack the outside wood...
Thanks again for the help!Main System:
