New Toy

Bought her less than a month ago.

09 650R, 4793 miles...paid $2600. When I got her, both mirrors were broke off, but luckily, the mirrors off my 09 zx6 fit with a washer. Very minimal damage. There was a small radiator leak, but I got that fixed. Just had to bend the inlet hose from the water pump a little bit more back to round, threw on some gasket maker and no more leaking :)

I don't have many upgrades planned for it. I'll get the hole in the fairing fixed eventually...if I don't find one to replace it with. I'm going to make a fender eliminator. I took my alarm off the track bike and will eventually transfer it over to this one. I hooked up my garage door opener to the new bike already.

I'll probably get aftermarket rear sets since you can't do GP with the stock stuff. I don't like having to switch when I get on the track. Other than that, I'll pick up SS lines, clip on's (these are insanely high) and an exhaust if I can find one for cheap...maybe get the levers powder coated black and that'll be it.

Pictures!

It's a pretty fun bike. I like it a lot so far. Very smooth power band from 3k+ RPMs unlike the zx6, which doesnt really get going until 8k+. Makes for a lot better commuting/street riding. Plus, $200/yr on liability only insurance is nice!

    Even do some off-roading...
Even on my commute, I'm fully geared from head to toe. Although I'm in mesh jackets and pants instead of a leather one-piece suit.

Dunno. Haven't topped either one out yet. GPS says the top of 5th gear in the gray bike is 145...and I still have 6th left. I am geared down a little for faster acceleration, so I lose a little top end. An independent magazine says 164.25...but I won't see that because of my gearing. I know it'll do 74mph in first gear with the stock gearing.

As far as the black bike...no idea. Probably around 140, maybe a little less.

Keep enjoying the movement bro. I think I'm done riding bikes while I'm in Japan, time will tell. My next ride will be either a Bentley GT or Lambo Gallardo. Toys are fun to have, enjoy yours man. Ride safe brother.

Somewhat true, but there's no shortage of stupid **** people on bikes. Be careful regardless and enjoy the ride.

Nice. I've always been a fan of the 650R myself. Although I am kind of disappointed they toned downed the looks a bit. Loved the two-tone, red-framed bikes they were when they first came out, and also the distinguishing shape of the rear footpeg frame:

Although if I found a bargain like yours on a newer one, I'd snatch it up too. That is a ridiculous price, even for one that's been laid down.

I noticed a few more sets of tracks when you were out there on the grass and was hoping no one flew into you when you were on the outside of the paved corners.

I had an experience like that years ago that caused me to stop riding.

Those were actually the photographer's tracks from his 4-wheeler. I went around quite a ways because theres a couple of tight right-left's in that area, so the race line is all over the track. I got on where I did because the race line is to the inside of the track for at least half a mile...and most of it is when you're straight up. It was muddy, so I was careful not to bring any mud on the track-Cody

    Somewhat true? Laughable.

The thing about a stupid biker is that the likelihood of them killing you because they didn't check their mirrors before they switched lanes or thought their text message was more important than driving is far, FAR less likely.

I said somewhat true because insurance isn't just for when it's someone else's fault, but you already knew that, didn't you? I've been riding for 40+ years and every year it seems like there are more and more dumb asses on bikes, and cars for that matter. Stay safe and watch out for the other guy.
