Where do you see ports? I think the 4 corner cutouts are where the velcro is for the grills. Early Monitors used large velcro dots to affix the grills.

Dude, those are some old monitors there. Do they work?

I would bet the caps in them are way off now,

    Nice grab,

It appears to be a replacement tweeter... but, that said, that is a VERY EARLY Monitor Series Model 7 - note the 8" (not 10") uncoated paper PR. A rare bird, indeed.

Given how old the speaker is - it might be an original pre-Peerless tweeter - or perhaps a different Peerless model (or an extra plate atop a plain-vanilla Peerless KO10DT; the Monitor 9As I have, if I recall correctly, have such a plate on their Peerlesses)... or maybe just an aftermarket replacement? It doesn't look like a cheap tweeter.

The guy I bought them from said he bought new at Gramophone in Maryland 30yrs ago or so and that they are all original. FWIW.

I remember Gramophone :-) I bought my parents a pair of used Dynaco A-25s there, a long, long time ago...
They're still around, if memory serves.

Yup, I'll bet that those are Peerlelss tweeters with 'funny' escutcheons on them. I have a pair of 9As that have similar looking tweeters (as I mentioned, parenthetically, before).
Heck, I'd grab those 7s for their uniqueness - they are very early ones. Do they have the serial numbers on 'em? Bet they're low.

Very cool man! Are you going to refurbish them? If so, do you know where to get drivers? I have a very old set of RTA 12s SN#00826 and #00835 that need rework and I'm having trouble locating suitable drivers. I can't believe that peerless tweeter is no longer available or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. Anyway, nice find man!

I'd be interested to see what the tweeters say on the back of them. These look like a very early run, back when "the boys" were building everything by hand.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I call that a replacement tweeter. You can actually see the marks where the original was.

I remember those tweeters though. Maybe RS or someone made them in the eighties. They look real familiar.

When I took it off it looks like it was put on with Mortite or something similar. Looks like a replacement to me also.

However, I think this pair sounds as good and possibly better than the 7's I have with peerless. Who knows!
