Where is a good place/site to sell CD's?

I've recently been debating on selling off my CD collection. I really have no idea which ones are good, or which ones I should just sell for a quarter at a garage sale.

I've got a few DVD-Audio (20+), some rare releases, and about 600 that I have no clue. I'm looking to find a reasonable way to get rid of them. I know I can (and probably will) sell some on here. But I don't want to start listing every little thing I have. I also don't want to make the mistake of selling something for a dollar, when it could be worth much more.

I found a few sites that you can sell CD's to, but some of them seem to have a generic look to them (i.e. I found 2 or 3 that appear to be the same site with a different name). Anyone here have any experience with a particular site?

Thanks in advance.

you could try second spin. As far as selling something of value for less, you will just have to spend your time researching if you want maximum dollar. Used cd's have taken a hit in the past few years. Also Amazon Market Place sells used cd's from a 0.01c on up.

If I were you get your list together and post them here with a fixed price and perhaps a bulk price ($2 ea or 5 for $8, something like that) and go that route. Most local used cd stores don't give more than a $1 these days for used cd's. Even at $1 a piece at a used cd store you have the potential of making $600, but from what I have observed they can be picky about the condtion and the title. If you have common cd's chances are they have enough stock and may not be interested in yours which means several trips back in the future to see if they need anymore of those particular title.

Probably soon (within the next couple weeks?) - but I have no idea what CD's go for nowdays. I started getting into DVD-A (and other 5.1 formats) when I bought my Acura since it had a DVD-A player in it.

I've got some fairly new stuff (NIN, Disturbed, Linkin Park) as well as some older remastered stuff (Queen, Def Leapard etc). I Just don't know if the prices are at $5 or $50. I'll probably have to go through my collection and hand pick the ones I want to list here, and then the rest that will just be garage sale stuff.

I guess along the same lines as my original question, is there a pricing site I can goto - or am I limited to surfing Amazon and checking the going rates?

Good idea H. I might have to make a spreadsheet somehow and list it here, or e-mail it to interested buyers. Looks like I've got some work to do.

I just know right now anything popular can be bought for .50c -1.00 used on Amazon. Sure they have flat 2.98 shipping fee, but if you sell here the buyer will have to pay shipping too. I know we like to take care of our own so I'm sure something listed on Amazon for $1 most Polkies would pay another Polkie a little more just to keep it all in the family. But, if Amazon has it for a $1 and you try to sell it for $5, well there is a tipping point and that's probably it, atleast for me.

It really is a crap shoot, just keep in mind there are lots of used cd's available so don't ask too much. If you go the garage sale route, then the headache of shipping is gone, but you may not make as much $$$.

Try secondspin. When I was unemployed about 3-4 years ago I had a lot of old catalog stuff they were paying top dollar for and I sold about 20 cd's and made close to $110 after shipping. Not sure how they do it now.

I would cull the DVD-A and the ones I thought I could get more than 4 or 5 bucks each for and offer them here on CP. I'd then auction off the rest as a lot on e-bay or sell them to your local used music emporium. Like others above have stated, you might get a buck a pop if you're lucky. That's what I'd do.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Second spin is good but the only pitfall from what I understand is they quote you a price then you must send them in. Once they get them that is when they may try to really low ball you. I would put your DVD-A's on the bay some are really bringing a TON of money. Some of my DVD-A I bought for 9.00 or less and I see them often sell for close to 200.00. I would never pay that kind of coin to me they are not that good, but if i needed the coin i would sell them is a heartbeat for that coin. I have really had very good luck buying from Second spin I think it's a great place to find some hard to get items that you never see in the brick and mortar stores anymore.

Secondspin gives you a quote based on the UPC number, then when they receive the discs if they aren't almost perfect condition they may tell you they are paying you less. I didn't have an issue with them 4 years ago as I had some discs that had very light scuff marks in a few areas.

You can look up the artist and they provide you with the UPC they are looking for and a price they will pay.

So here is where I believe I am at. Long story short, I'm in the process of rearranging my office. Got rid of my old desk, and picked up a new one last night. Next I will be moving an 8 foot section of pallet racking that I used as a workbench. Once that is gone (later this week) - I will be moving some bookshelves from the living room, into the office. (The bookshelves hold all my movies and CD's) Once I remove all of the CD's from the shelves - and move them upstairs, I will alphabetize everything as I'm putting it back on the shelf.

Sometime (let's just call it April) - I will probably have a weekly sale. I will list things alphabetically, based on how many I have in each "group". I think this will make things manageable for you and myself. I'll list CD's at 50-100 a time, rather than trying to keep tabs on all of them at once. Any interested buyers, I can certainly set aside "dibs" and do a mass shipment when it is all said and done.

This sound like a good plan? I'll probably pull out the multi-channel audio, special editions, etc and those will be in a seperate listing. Everything else will more than likely be of the $1-2 variety.

    I second that F1...

There are some I sold years ago that i'd love to have back. At one time I thought that I'd just be able to buy them again...how wrong I was to think that. Now the studio's really don't want you to have them it seems not to mention most of the brick and motar stores in my area have crappy selections and mostly greatest hit CD's

I agree. Even if they are all ripped to HD, if you sell them all you no longer have legal copies. Also makes for another backup.

Unless you are giving up listening to music.

I will second this! There have been a few times I was thinking about an album I used to listen to and then check my cd collection only to find it in there. It is amazing how we forget what we have already bought in the past and have. Keep Them. Stash them in a box and put them in the garage.
