Problem with AVR and subwoofer?

I have a pioneer vsx-816 that I have been using. Recently I realized that the sub was not working. I checked all the cabling and made sure that the sub was enabled in the settings. Yet it is still not functioning as expected. I take the sub cable and touch the end with my finger and i hear it buzz. Next I connected the sub to another spare AVR that I have and it sounds like normal. Is the pioneer AVR just broke at this point? I am not sure it would not work like it did about a week ago.

Any other opinions on why the sub preout on the receiver is not sending sound to it? Just curious what else i can try to see why this is happening.

Upon further testing i have found that it is putting out some sound but not very much at all. I have turned up the trim on the sub channel to plus 10 and there is a little something there. The strange thing is that it plays the test tones at a higher volume than any thing else.

hmmmm...the sub preout has nothing to do with the internal amp on the the AVR does it? I didnt think so. Maybe it is just time to retire it.

What frequency is you center channel and L&R channels set at. If they are set to full range then you won't get any bass from the sub until your listining to a 5.1 sound source.

Don't know how your AVR is set up, but I had the same problem with my Yamaha. Had to go into the menu for levels and change a few things. I discovered it wasn't the sub itself when I pulled it out and connected it to my two channel rig.
