:loneranger: OK, my house was recently burglarized so all I have left of my 5.1 system are the ab755 (in ceiling) rear speakers.
I was thinking of going with a soundbar for the LCR (my wife always hated the front speakers, too intrusive).
still using the ab755's for the rears.
Also, thinking about traditional front and Center speakers (book Shelf). If I can convince the wife! Any suggestions there??
I will be using a pioneer 1021k receiver.
I am not an audiophile by any means, just watching movies and listening to music...

Thanks!

    Ohh, damn burglars

Uhm well... what about bookshelf speakers as front? Unless you have a very large room, it can be really neat. And a soundbar isn't as good IMO as three speakers correctly positionned... it isn't as good for music than a full sized (i.e. bookshelf or tower) speaker. While it has a certain WAF factor, there is a lot of compromises inside...

Good lord, I'm lucky that my GF do not care about my stuff (at least, not yet). I would never trade my full-sized speakers for something less intrusive as I like the look of some "good looking" speakers in a living room, expecially when it looks like furniture. Sure if a pair of speakers looks like high-tech stuff coming right out of a Star Trek episode, it might not have a good WAF, but what about looking for a pair of speakers that could fit in your decor?

It doesn't mean you have to ditch 1000$ too, as there is a lot of 250-500$/pair bookshelf speakers that looks great while on a simple, but elegant looking wood stand (take the LSi7 for example... my Ebony pair entirelly match my dark drown/chocolate furniture and contrast well with my pale beige/tan walls). Okay, I'm the one who cares about the furniture and stuff, but still, I think there is a way to get her approval. Look for stuff with her, according to your budget, and see if anything would fit. If it doesn't work, then you should take whatever pleases her the most (i.e. the soundbar).

Personnally, even if they occupy the same space, I think mountstanded bookshelf speakers are visually less obstrusive than large towers.
