Start up - no volume
I am running optical out from TV to 806, I don't use the A/V receiver for video at all. Cable connected to TV direct through HDMI.
When I start up my set up, and switch everything on, the volume from the TV programs sometime is very low, after a little while it comes up, where as if I switch to tuner the radio is balsting off at the regular volume.
Has anyone had a similar experience.

We have the same tv. There are some issues with that LG and sound output but it has to do with pushing out stereo vs dts via optical out. That can be changed in the service menu. However i dont think that will help your issue.
May I ask why you are running the sound from the tv to the reciever and not sound from the cable box or source to the reciever and video out from the cable box (since your not going to do video pass thru on your 806)?
In all honesty I think your problem has to do with how you are running your cables.
P.S. How do like that Adcom with your rti's?Living Room

make sure you turn off all the auto-volume feature on your TV.
not sure if you TV has this feature or not, but make sure you don't tie the TV output level to the speaker volume -

+1 Yep, if the volume goes up when you turn it up on the TV it's tied together. I would strongly recommend changing the way you have your source to output configuration.Living Room

Well, I read some reviews on TX SR806 and they all said it has some video problems, some blue lines coming on TV etc, so I plugged it like it is, and haven't chhanged yet. I am still a newbie :-)nhhiep

I have the TV volume at mute and then nothing is avilable in the menu.
I think it might be the cable, it gets stuck sometimes by itself, like if I am pressing info, it thinks and then pops up the screen, after some delayP.S. How do like that Adcom with your rti's?
I like them, when I see movies, they really bring life on the screen, I am just a newbie but the sound is very much close to a movie hall, its also the speakers and the outlaw (Damn this is a good sub :-))Polk RTi12

LOL, yep i was eyeing that one as well, I believe there cousins or step brothers or something like that.... Look on the back of the cable box and see if you can run the optical out from there to the reciever give that a try instead of running it from the TV out.. Like I said earlier unless they fixed it with firware the LG lw6500 only outputs non originating sound sources (if the sound doesnt come from an lg app) it is dropped to stereo. You can also get around this by following the instructions on the AVS owners forum on how to change it in the service menu.Living Room

Thanks for the suggestion, i will see if I have an optical out from the cable box, but then I will have to run another one from the dvd player to the receiver.
Anyway, one of these days I am going to try and run everything through the receiver itself... Like I said earlier unless they fixed it with firware the LG lw6500 only outputs non originating sound sources (if the sound doesnt come from an lg app) it is dropped to stereo
BTW, when I see movies through TV or Blue ray, I get the 5.1 surround effects when they are required to come on the surrounds, does this mean that the optical out from LG is actually dolby (thats what they say on the manual).Polk RTi12

Hmmm not sure, I dont have any experince with it as I run all my stuff through my Pio, however when I was on the AVS forum it was one of the biggest complaints. It may have been fixed with one of the last firmware updates. Or its possible that your reciever is taking stereo and pushing into 5.1 not sure. Does your reciever indicate what type of signal/codec its getting? Is your bluray player set to bit rate or LPCM, where is the sound decoding taking place. The way you have things I honestly think you may not be getting the best sound out of either you cable box or bluray player.
However I may be totally wrong...

You are right, the input source is PCM and the input chaneels are stereo  The listening mode is converting it to 5.1, although they are doing a good job at it
So I will have to change everything now, I will have everything going through the receiver and set the video to through to have minimum effect from the receiver.
The Blue ray is set to the following
HDMI & digital output : PCM Stereo
sampling frequency : 48 KHz
DRC : Auto
Should I change this ?
I have optical output from both cable box and Blu ray, should I just connect the optical outputs from both to the receiver
OR just connect everything thru HDMI through receiver and then HDMI output to TVPolk RTi12

Hey, this was very helpful, you can talk more sense drinking than me without beer
I changed everything thru HDMI, audio is great, video is a bit altered, but still OK, did some contrast and saturation setting, looks OK now, will change the blueray settings in the evening.
I will for sure visit some movies, its a different sound :cool:Polk RTi12

Can I use a HDMI "Y" splitter and feed one HDMI to receiver and one dorect to TV, so that I get the best audio and un altered video.
I can order 2 spliters and get the Blue ray connected this way too.
Why I want to do this, here is a review of 806The bottom line is that if you have nothing else, the 806's video processor is nice, especially for something like HD Cable or Satellite boxes which at best turn out their native 1080i60 signal format. For hard core DVD aficionados there is no question an Oppo 983 player is still your best bet, yet not "passed through" the Onkyo. Why? The 806 is NOT capable of unaltered HDMI repeating! At the very least it drops below black (even if the source is component analogue video).
Ultimately you are better running source straight to display, but that is going to be a problem for Blu-Ray since you MUST run it through the Onkyo in order for it to strip the HD audio from the HDMI stream. This could very well be a deal breaker for many users and we hope that Onkyo can repair this flaw via firmware in the future (although without knowing the root cause we cannot say whether that is even a possibility).Polk RTi12

So I set it all up with the HDMI, everything is wroking fine for 2 weeks EXCEPT for the slow volume which I started the thread for.
When I start the set up the volume is very slow at starting volume (which I have set to -35 Db). At the start of the set up the volume is more like -20 Db and after about 5-7 minutes the volume comes up to -35 db levels. There is no center/surround channel volume and only the towers runnning through an Adcom are giving the volume, so the pre-out are giving the signal but a weak one.
After 5 minutes everything starts running fine, like its all warmed up.
What is the problem, is the receiver bad ?Polk RTi12
