if you have these spkrs, you know about the kit offered on e--y...worth every penny! i have tdc point 6 speakers, which are clones of the minimus 7W...the speakers sound so much better...pianoes, vocals, strings...no more honkie sound...the bass is even stronger! it is a small cab with a 4" woofer, so it's not going to rattle the windows..my setup is a jolida tube int with a squeezebox...this is used nearfield at the bedside..at that closeness, the bass is there and clean in it's detail..
if you've been on the fence about this...JUMP! i can't reccomend it any higher

No more honkie sound? Even if you play Play that Funky Music, White Boy?
The mind boggles. -
ha! left the door wide open, didn't i???

I can only hit them ones that come right down the middle with no "stuff" on 'em.
I have no doubt that XO upgrades could only improve the Minimus 7. They're not awful, but they are lacklustre; they are (were) pretty mediocre (albeit inexpensive) imitations of the better minispeakers of their era (i.e., the Visoniks and the ads minispeakers). -
I've bought a couple of his upgrade kits and some power supply caps for a couple of Hafler 200s. Good seller.

I have had a few pairs in my life. Not a bad little speaker. Used them mainly nearfield with a sub. Pretty decent sound.
What did the upgrade consist of? Do you just upgrade the crossover or redesign it? -

it's got caps for the tweeter circuit..you use the existing coil..the woofer side adds a nice coil, resistor and and couple caps...here's a linker

I have to debate whether it's really worth sticking 30 bucks into mine.

There's a thread at audiokarma (started by the late, great Zilch) on redoing the Minimus 7 XO; I've not spent any time looking at it, but it may be more cost effective to source the parts oneself and do that mod rather than pay a third party for parts and a design.
EDIT: The Zilch thread at AK:

Yeah, I probably didn't pay much for them in the first place. I'm sure I waited until RS put 'em on sale and then grabbed a pair because I didn't have much else at the time -- but we're talking thirty years ago.
And I don't use mine much at all. Then again, maybe it's because they don't sound that great!! I'm just not sure they have that much to offer, upgrade or not.
I had a pair of the Minimus 4s too at one time, but I sold those to a guy who used them as "surrounds" -- in the pre-5.1 days, seems like... -

I've done the Zilch modification with very good results. I think I have three pairs now, with just the one that I have gotten around to modifying.
Mark, thanks again for the single you sent me to help salvage a pair that needed that tweeter. -
You're welcome! I (ahem... umm...) had forgotten that I sent you one :-P I know I've sent a few of 'em along their merry way.
The two pair that I still have were each acquired from R/S when they had one of their regular "half-price" sales (i.e., 19 dollars a pop, way back when). They aren't bad at that price. -
Thanks for the AK link -- I'll give it a look.

Minimus 7's are decent enough for night time (not disturbing others).
BTW, are the tdc speakers any good?
I am not sure if this one is similar to what you have.
Klipsch RB81, KG3.5, B&W DM602.5, Polk.
Subwoofers: Klipsch RW10, Triad ProSub Bronze. -
Hmmm might be worth doing just for the what the heck factor. $30 ha!I got static in my head

Heh, I once, long ago, had a pair just like those from my favorite local emporium. I thought that they were terrible, but they're really not. Those phenolic ring cone tweeters made by CTS are actually quite decent sounding if not terribly extended. The woofers, I suspect, are Quam OEM. When I had them, I wasn't aware of the EIA manufacturer/date coding, so I never even looked. They (of course) needed to be refoamed and - though I knew foam could be replaced - I didn't bother and just chucked them. Saved the tweeters, used the boxes with full range drivers for a while but ultimately pitched them. Silly me.
More or less a house brand speaker from one of the hifi companies of the 1970s or early 1980s... again, nothing special but not trash either.

A teeny bit more on TDC, from the 1978 Tech HiFi catalog :-)
And then there were these TDCs, found at my favorite local emporium. As their original designer intended, or Frankenspeakers? No one alive today seems to know for sure :-) They didn't sound horrible, actually.
