I picked up a Velodyne SMS-1 cheap. It includes a mic that is not the original. Its a Samson R11. Will this mic work?

Dose any one know what mic the SMS1 uses? I would like to purchase the original mic, but not sure what model it is.

Thanks,

Mike

It's a modded version of a Bebringer ECM8000, I've seen them velo version on eBay from time to time...

Np, I want to say if you use something other than the stock mic you'll have to have it calibrated. Not sure though.

Oh btw, what is "cheep"? Feel free to pm me if you don't mind...

I picked it up on Ebay for $198.00, but now I need to get a mic. I can get a ECM8000 from Velodyne for $70. They have them on ebay for $54. I wonder if there is any difference.

I'm still under the belief that the vela version is a modded one. Get the one from velo, at that price your still ok. FWIW, I got my complete unit for 275.00 to my door, and I think that was a good price.

I just received an email from Velodyne and he said any Behringer ECM8000 mic will work, so I can save a few bucks there.

You may be right. Info from another forum tells me this SMS-1 may be worthless with out the original mic. With the variance in response between the ECM8000 mics, a replacement mic won’t be as accurate as the mic it was originally shipped with, so keep your ECM8000 mic safe.
