Another music great passes too soon (or maybe I'm just getting real old).
Legendary Guitarist Ronnie Montrose Dies at 64

MUSIC NEWS - More sad news as we learn that American rock guitarist, RONNIE MONTROSE has died at the age of 64. He was born in Denver, CO, on November 29, 1947 and died from prostate cancer on March 3.

His official website posted-

A few months ago, we held a surprise party for Ronnie Montrose?s 64th birthday. He gave an impromptu speech, and told us that after a long life, filled with joy and hardship, he didn?t take any of our love for granted.

He passed today. He?d battled cancer, and staved off old age for long enough. And true to form, he chose his own exit the way he chose his own life. We miss him already, but we?re glad to have shared with him while we could.

This is so sad. I love Montrose and Gamma, his other project, and one of my favorite bands. I feel a little older every time one of the all time greats passes away.

^^^ That album got some play back in the day.

Saw him back in San Francisco back in 1972 (3 ?). Opening for Black Oak Arkansas (I ThinK). What I do remember clearly  is the local DJ coming out for the customary "Are You Ready to Rock !!!" intro, than the "Monnnnttttttttttttttooooooooooooooooosssssssssssssssssse" scream, then the pounding, grinding, opening licks for "Rock the Nation".:eek::eek:

Hadn't even heard of Montrose before then, but it took about 2 seconds to put Montrose in the mental "Oh, Yeah !" stack. Sammy's vocals were weak, but it didn't matter; Ronnie Montrose unleashing that guitar made it all good.

    RIP Ronnie Montrose.

I had the pleasure of meeting his parents back in 79 or 80, very nice people.
They were so happy I had heard of their son.
Montrose is one of my all time favorite albums!
    RIP Ronnie!!!

I don't see anyone mention it, but there will be a Ronnie Montrose Tribute Concert, on April 27 in San Francisco. Forget about getting tickets since it has been sold out. Everyone will be there, including Sammy Hagar and members of Montrose and Gamma, plus Joe Satriani and Neal Schon.
