Since the Monitor 70's have 2 sets of binding posts can I use one set connected to my old Yamaha to listen to music and the set to my newer Yamaha for my movies.

No, that's not how they are to be used. Read your manuals for more specific info. What models are your receivers?

I have a yamaha RX V992 that absolutely sounds great for music. and a yamaha RX v667 that I wanted to use for my surround sound but not thrilled with. The V992 does not handle DTSmdaudioguy wrote: »No, that's not how they are to be used. Read your manuals for more specific info. What models are your receivers?

You could try this; having two sets of cable running to your M70's, one from each receiver. When playing musice, have one set of cables "in". When playing movies, have the other set "in".
Now that I think about it, and OP don't try this until you get confirmation, it does seem doable if you've got both sets of cables hooked up, with the jumpers still in place, but only one power source connected at a time, Captain, it just might woooorrk.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

I also agree with the recommendation that the jumpers must be installed. Otherwise, the lower set of binding posts is for the midbass/woofer drivers and the upper binding posts are for the tweeter drivers.

..+1..Your M70's are very musical speaker and have been around for a long time.Just a note i wouldn't bi-amp or bi-wire them just me saying. They are the Flagships of the Monitor line and do very well when a amp is added to them. But they are easy too drive.Too me they are one of the better 2 1/2 ways out there for the money.mdaudioguy wrote: »No, that's not how they are to be used. Take a look at what the OP wants to do. In theory, it looks like he could pull it off. Not bi-amp or bi-wire, but be able to operate two different power sources at separate times for separate applications.
With the jumpers in, two leads from one receiver into the top terminals, from the other receiver, two leads into the bottom terminals. Only one receiver on at a time, one to watch movies, one to listen to music, same set of speakers, two different power sources.
In theory, it appears to be able to work.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

i see your point on this.I was looking to do the same thing. But sent an email too H/K about just this.and they said a big No on that set up even with one or the other unit that if off you can get a neg-feed back too the unit that is off.I would suggest that he get a Niles A/B Amp speaker switch. This is what i use for two units and one pair of speakers (mains) and it works great. They go for about $90 bucks well built and easy too hide.Take a look at what the OP wants to do. Negative feedback to a unit is not a good thing.

Geoff4rfc,Your welcome. But what you said will work running two sets of speaker wire's and unpluging the set your not using at the time.Thats how i was doing it till i got tired of getting up to remove the set of speakers and pluging the others in.But the Niles A/B amp switch is really nice. You push a button, out is amp or unit A, and when you push it in its Amp or unit B.It completely isolates the units from each other and is good up too 350 watts so if you have a high current amp or unit.It also will not degrade the signal.

Same here.I have H/K3600 and H/K3490.Now the 3490 has a better DAC in it and in two channel sounds much better so i went with that Niles A/B amp speaker switch check it out it will work.I have a yamaha RX V992 that absolutely sounds great for music. and a yamaha RX v667 that I wanted to use for my surround sound but not thrilled with.
