Music Hall 25.2 DAC and V-Link SPDIF

Both for $400 shipped!

http://www.musichallaudio.com/product_reviews/tonedac25_2.pdf

Up for sale is my Music Hall 25.2 DAC. I would rate it a 8-9 with a couple of tiny scratches on the top of the unit. I had great fun tube rolling with this dac. Some on this forum know that I?ve been on the fence for over a year as to upgrade or not. Honesty just wanted to try something new; I?ve been very pleased from day one. For the price, this is honestly one of my favorite all-time audio purchases.

About 6-months ago I added the V-Link Asynchronous 24bit 96khz USB to SPDIF Convertor. This little upgrade along with replacing the stock tube was added a great amount of addition detail.

I?m only selling the MH because I got a great deal on a W4S dac-2.
I will also include the coaxial cable pictured.

So I've been kinda exploring the idea of an external DAC for some time. I mostly listen to mp3 and flac files through a xbmc. I have been using the hdmi audio out for it, but the computer does have optical and usb output. That's all I need, right?
Without the ability to listen to the unit, how much warmth does it add? I guess where I'm headed with that question is that I am running a B&K 7270 into LSI15's, which is a somewhat laid back setup. Don't know if the MH would make the sound too, as a reviewer put it, "gooey".
Now, what does the V-Link do? Why is it better than just a usb to usb, or optical to optical?
Thanks for answering my noob questions, not sure what the WAF is for this unit, but I'm feeling a moment of weakness right now.

Having an outboard dac can make all the difference in the world. I recently added a v link to my system and for some Dacs it has a higher resolution using spdif or optical. The link takes the incoming usb and locks the signal. This is important because as you multi task on your computer the computer will prioritize the usb hub as needed. So the v link greatly reduces jitters. The thef outboard dac upscales the files and sounds way better. Remember that every digital source is using a dac. So your soundcard on your computer is what your dac is right now and I imagine I can not compete with something like this. I have run a b&k 200.2 with lsi 9s and was very happy with the tube stage.

So I understand that the xlr out bypasses the tube and the rca's go through the tube. What about the headphone jack, tube or ss?
    Thanks for everyone's input!

Yes, headphone output is solid state. I actually thought about keeping it for a bedroom rig for this very purpose.

Just wanted to say that I received the Music Hall last week. bklynNupe did a fine job of shipping it promptly and packaged well. bklynNupe was very pleasant to deal with, and the transaction went as smooth as can me.
So far, in only casual listening, I am very happy with the Music Hall. I really am enjoying the texture and character that the tube brings to the listening experience. It is a beautiful unit, and like I said, I do love the tube aspect of it.
Anyway, just wanted to publicly thank bklynNupe for the easy transaction, and for parting with such a killer DAC for a killer (to me) price!
