Yeah, I agree. The criteria used is a little "fuzzy" too.

....Everyone has their favorites. I agree with most of their top ten. Just wish Simon & Garfunkel's Bookends had made it. It changed my LIFE back then. Poetry !!!!!!

..But NO ONE should contest that "Magical Mystery TOUR" changed the direction of music. Opened new doors to music.

Any one have input to compare a new direction that compares?

It's almost impossible to create a "Top ****" of anything (albums, songs, guitarists, cars, garbage disposals, etc), but going through quite a bit of the Rolling Stones' list, it seemed to me that at least they put some thought into it.
They didn't just "cookie cutter" a crap list of Madonna, Lady Gaga, and fill-in-the-blank-with-the-flavor-of-the-month.

I mean, my gawd: they had "Trout Mask Replica" on the list, and at #58 ! Captain Beefheart has to be rolling over in his grave. Or jumping between alternate universes. One of the two.
No, this wasn't a list slopped together by a bunch of highschool interns betweens applications of ProActive Acne cream.

They listed a group, and the explanation for their choice.
Some I didn't agree with, of course. They had Elvis Costello in the Top 100 (#98) with "This Year's Model". Now, this is definitely a prejudice on my part, but I wouldn't put Elvis Costelloin the Top 1000 of anything unless it had something to do with refuse removal or ways of inducing nausea. He falls into my "Don't Get Him" category, so that's on me.

Cool to see that they had some of what are foundation stone albums, IMO, and are sometimes overlooked ; Carol King's "Tapestry" (#39), James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James", Sly & The Family Stone (#60"), Creedence Clearwater Revival ( #95 "Green River" and #234 "Cosmo's Factory").
IMO, CCR's #234 and #95 should be switched. IMO.

Also, Rolling Stone listed a couple of Black Sabbath albums: "Black Sabbath" (#241) and "Master of Reality" (#298).
IMO, that order should be switched, too.
Also, "Master of Reality" should be moved into the Top 100. You may, of course disagree with that, but if you do, be aware I'm prepared to come over and kick your arse because ... well, because that's just the way it is.

Nice that Rolling Stone mag had Etta James, Otis Redding, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson listed, too.
I would have listed Willie Nelson's "Stardust" album in place of "Red Headed Stranger"; that album was so not-Willie-Nelson it belonged on the list.
The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin had their place(s) on the list, and rightfully so.
Did you see T Rex on the list at #160 ? As we all know, who needs TV when you got T Rex (Thanks Mott).

Sorry, but, I've had rock journalists on my ignore list since puberty. They pretty much have the same value to me, as the contents of my leeching field:wink:

The best albums are the ones I listen to, I don't care what others think.

I looked twice and didn't see Rush "Moving Pictures" on the list. 500 albums and one of the greatest albums EVER doesn't make it, but Eminem has TWO albums?

    Completely worthless list!
    No excuses!

Really? 3 Beatles albums in the first 5? Nope. The Clash- London Calling, before the 1st Led Zeppelin entry?? WTF, a load of crap for sure.

Nirvana before Led Zep, what they are they smoking??? Now I know why RS hasn't been relevant in a decade. Lame

U2 before Led Zep, what a pant load............

What a worthless list. Don't get me wrong, there are some good albums on that list, but it's just a history of pop culture.

I like the list in that if you are on it, that's pretty significant. But the ordering of the first 25 or so is way off, IMO. One good thing is I can scroll through them and have Amazon open in another tab and buy some of those I simply had forgotten about. This could get expensive filling in some holes in my music collection.
