Paying bounties for hits that cause injury...

http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/03/03/saints-violated-bounty-rule/

Yeah, we know this probably goes on informally with a lot of teams, however this one seems like it was pretty institutionalized. This kind of negative press is usually associated with the bad boys.... Raiders, Steelers, Ravens, Patriots... the teams people love to hate. We'll have to see how it plays out for the NFL's beloved Saints.

Nah, no worries. I think it's interesting that they're reporting on the fact that certain players have been "slapped with the franchise tag". Wow, I love Ray Rice, but why is $7.7 million for a year's work being portrayed as a hardship? It's not him that's complaining or anything, but why is this really a story? And then Brees gets it... Looks like the NFL spinmeisters are playing damage control.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Belicheck was fined $500K for the video taping of opponent practices. This is far more serious. And yes, things like this have been going on for years. But the Saints have been caught. It will be interesting.

I wouldn't expect anything LESS, from a league that allows Michael Vick to play:rolleyes:

I said it back in 2009 that these douchbags were playing to kill their opponents rather than beat them clean. Their actions on the field against Brett Farve are tantamount to assault rather than just hard play. They should be the first team in the history of the NFL to be stripped of their championship, their head coach banned for life from the game, and those players implicated in taking part banned or suspended as well. Criminal investigations should also take place... Before you guys think that I am just a bitter Vikings fan, I wanted Randy Moss charged in meter gate and the Williams wall to do their punishment as well. Rules are rules. Hockey players have done jail time for assault when fights result in injury, it should be no different here!

That this has been going on for several years without detection by the league is also disgusting, and Roger Goodell's head should also roll, along with any official that may have just looked the other way. This is the NFL equivalent of the 1919 White Sox IMHO, and the league must take the strongest possible measures if there is to be any integrity in the NFL. I want FOOTBALL, not the WWE.

Football fans ooh and ahh at big hits, so I don't understand why "paying bounties for hits that cause injury" is something that should be prohibited??? The hardest hitters have always been valuable assets of the NFL, haven't them? It's just hypocrisis that they are trying to crack down on this. I believe the suits are trying to cover their @sses from lawsuits more than setting moral standard for the league. This is the NFL, not FLAG FOOTBALL.

Even if Greg Williams doesn't get fined by the NFL front office, he'll still be serving time in his new position with his new team: Defensive Coordinator with the St. Louis Rams.

I don't have a problem if the players have pools for performance but when they have pools for maiming, then it goes too far.

Players have a hard enough time making it through a 16 game season yet the NFL is wanting to go to an 18 game season (!!!!!). Allowing players to have "bounties" based on Kill Shots will destroy people.

Really?? I'm a fan of sports. I enjoy seeing a good, clean hit, and yes, sometimes those cause injuries. Yes, it's not flag football - we expect hard hits. Yes, football players are modern-day gladiators, but this isn't Rome. Paying to encourage injuries... you think that's a good idea? That seems a bit twisted to me.
