Im sick of listening to the cheap technics i have, and im dying to get my vinyl spinning properly again, im torn between giving all my albums to tnhndyman to rip cds and keep the albums, then i would invest in a quality cd player, i doubt i would have the funds for a transport and dac of sufficient quality.

Or looking for a good 3-400 dollar tt, notice i did not say great, i understand that for this money, im not going to get a great tt and cart.

I guess what im asking is would i be better off trying to find a sl 1200 type tt that has been well maintained or a new rega entry level type setup.

any help is appreciated,

    Scott-
It's been crazy at home last few days (my mom had gallbladder surgery, deb's mom back in hospital cancer back in spine and brain- not good at all), but I've been meaning to call for over a week. Deb's on spring break and I'd like to come down one day next week- Th or Fri maybe. Tied up till late tomorrow night but give me a call and we can coordinate. Don't go spending any money yet, let me bring something down with me for you to try and a couple decent carts and see what you think.
2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

IMHO your best bet in that price range is going to be a well taken care of SL-1200. I bought mine originally for $200. The great thing about the 1200 is it's a very solid and well built turntable that responds very well to mods. KAB has a whole bunch of them for the 1200 that you can do over time as funds permit. My 1200 has been heavily modded and it sounds as good as any turntable I've ever heard.
