Alright nay-sayers here is my take after a few days with the emo. I just bought mine used from ebay for 457 shipped and it came with the latest firmware + the upgrade card (currently on ebay for 175 bin).

I'm glad you like it, but why didn't you just pay $40 more for a brand new one with the upgrade card?

Sems a bit high for a used one.

I think I must have dozed off...did someone in Chicago say they had to pee in a paper cup?

To the original poster: Buy a receiver, name brand and use it as a pre to drive your ht amps, and EMO are just fine amps for HT. I have an XPA-5 for HT with an Onkyo TXNR 708 doing all of the driving and decision making. Get a Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Yamaha ...others that I forget about, with all of the latest hook-ups and what not and ensure it has a full set of pre-outs.

I like Emotiva. I have their DAC/PRE for a little unit I'm putting together and am waiting on their new CD player. I think they do a fine job with this stuff as well as their amps. Receivers are very complex beasts and keep changing every 6 months as technology changes. The list above are the manufactures that do a really good job in the receiver department and for the most part they all work very well with just a few glitches common to all of them. I own Yamaha, Onkyo and HK and they all do most things very well and they all seem to be just a little challenged in small areas, but you work around them as NOTHING IS Perfect. I believe these mass marketers can do a better job for the buck than can the high end boys in this arena...and they're CHEAP. I purchased my last unit from Club Onkyo as a re-furb for about $335. shipped with a 1 year warranty. If it takes a dump or more likely some new piece of technology comes around it will sell and I will buy another for about the same money. I would caution against investing big bucks into the technology side of audio. Spend big bucks on the basics: Speakers, cables, amps and good wine.
Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,
    Polk SDS-SRS with mods, CSI 5 center + Klipsch SC2, Polk RT2000P rears, Klipsch KG 1.5's sides, Polk Micro Pro 1000, Polk Micro Pro 2000, Polk SW505, Belkin PF60, Signal Cable Classics,Monster IC's, 2 15 amp circuits & 1 20 amp circuit.

    Living Room: Belkin PF60, Parasound HCA2200, MIT ProlineEXP balanced IC's,Emotiva XDA-1 DAC/Pre,Emotiva ERC2 transport,MIT AVT2, Polk LSI 9's.

The new ones don't ship until the end of the month (maybe). This one came with the upgrade card and I still saved 50 bucks and got it now rather than waiting another month. When all is said and done, I'll end up paying 300 for it.

$300 is a good price to try something else out.

How do you get $300? Selling the upgrade card that would have also came with a new one?

    And you saved $40.
