I will be upgrading to a better CD player. I am hoping to buy used from A-gon and my short list is a Rega Appollo or CEC 5100Z (my boss swears by it). Any thoughts on the differences between the two, or experiences with either unit would be appreciated. I want a unit that has a smooth, detailed sound, but is still forgiving on the not so well recorded CDs (thats the dream anyway).
Thanks in advance.

IMO, the CEC will be more forgiving than the Apollo. Just my 2 cents. Now, if you were talking Rega Saturn---possibly a different story.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Look up a used Jolida 100, roll a tube and it might blow your skirt up. Had one in the FM you should have grabbed. The EE cdp would also be a good snag. Look at Bada too, or MF cdp's. All should be forgiving on those old cd's that have been sitting on the car floor for 2 years.HT SYSTEM-
