Looking at some tube amps on CL wanted to know if they are worth the it:
Offered are a set of Antique Sound Lab Wave 8 mono block tube amps. NOS matched quad Svetlana WingedC 6BM8 ECL82 vacuum tubes are included and have maybe 10 hours on them. Nice little amps, good way to get into tube audio. Sound wise these are very clear & crisp highs and clean sound all the way around. Wanting to pay off some bills is the only reason I'm selling these. They work fine but given age (mid 90's I believe) there is no warranty written implied. Also included are some top covers for the tubes & transformers.
Specs:
Output power 8 Watts
Frequency response at 1 Watt 20 Hz-20 Khz. +/- 1 dB
Frequency Response at 8 Watts 30 Hz-18 kHz. +/- 1 dB
Distortion at 1 Watt < 1%
Distortion at 8 Watts <5%
S/N ratio 70 dB
Input impedance 100k Ohm
Input sensitivity 500 mVolt.
Power consumption 40 Watts maximum.
Output impedance 8 Ohms.
Dimensions 6" W X 12" D X 51/2"
Weight 7 lbs.

Neat little amps that you would need pretty efficient speakers in a smallish room. Don't pay too much for them. Good entry level pieces if they have been taken care of. It's nice that they have the covers as those were sold separately, IIRC.

How about a 10x10 room driving Polk Monitor 60's? Then possibly LSi 7's or Infinity Primus 162's?
Asking price is 300"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Don't expect much in the way of dynamics."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Forget LSi 7's and as Face said don't expect a lot in dynamics. I looked at couple pairs early on when I started into tubes and decided they just wouldn't quite cut it. The AV 25's would be a much better choice.
If you are looking for medium volume in an intimate setting and not listening for huge dynamics they will suffice. What pre do you plan on running?

Those kind of amps are for Klipsch horns, etc..."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I do use a 9wpc EL34 based single ended amp that sound pretty damn good. But EL34's and single ended are much different than the topology and ECL82 tubes used in the AV 8's. I don't get huge volume, but I don't need it. Dynamics are pretty good to great on most stuff. The tranny's on mine are beefier than the AV 8's too.
If the price is right and you want to try them, sure go for it noting the caveats mentioned. They seem to be easy sellers so you could flip them.
