Hi guys,
Before you turn your noses up at my find I got ot tell you the story .Monday I'm having my knee replaced and after watching the video it's pretty brutal so I had to go and get some air. Usually I'll scan the classifieds on the weekends and find something near me.It turns out that this adult community near me was haveing a house sale and this was the second day so not much was left. I asked the son if they had any vintage audio stuff from their parents stuff and out from the attic comes 2 dusty, dirty boxey speakers It turns out they are Bose 601 series 1 in working order except all 4 woofers need refoaming which was no surprise. I cleaned them up metered them then h/u them to my zone 2 on the Yamaha and they worked.I of course did not push them they would shred to pieces. So as I rehab for my knee I have a project waiting for me and I'm really interested to find out after all is done are these going to be better than the Infinty112s for 2 chl .So I have 3 sets of speeks in the house.Oh almost forgot there was a small Sansui reciever he asked if I wanted it, plugged it in and a flame shot out of it and stunk up the house so no Sansui .The Bose 601s $20 and he loaded them for me seeing how I was limping.

Sounds like a neat project. How is your knee doing?
That Sansui was not a 5000A by any chance? They look smaller but weigh more than 35 lbs. Some have faulty boards in them that were eventually replaced by Sansui. But there are probably a few around that have not been worked on!
Bose 600 series. Can't be too bad and were probably pretty "pricey" in their day!
Take care!

Thanks alot, the knee is totally shot the Dr. was horrified that I waited so long about 38 years after the initial accident .It's all wear and tear and bone on bone pain so this could be a life changer .Back to the the Boses, 601s back in the day retailed in the high $600 range. Now all the series are all over the place and I do like the look of the newer ones. The Sansui I did not even look at the model once the flame and smoke happened we took it out so it wouldn't burn the house down.I've you-tube refoaming and it doesn't look that tough but there are 4 8''s to do.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I never heard the Series 1's. In 1984 I purchased a pair of Series 2's and paired them with Kenwood Basic seperates. This was my first home audio system that drove my parents crazy. The combination created a wall of sound only surpassed by the SDA-SRS's that replaced them. I wish that I would have kept them because very few speakers hold value like the 601's.

Of the Bose speakers, I liked the 601 the most. Sounds like a nice rehab project. God bless your surgery and recovery.
