Good Headphones Can Help Tweak Your System - 4 Sho

I just purchased a set of Grado SR60i headphones for my 2 channel system. Through the process of making the decision to order them I figured it would help in tweaking my system. I wanted to see the differences in plugging directly into my CD player jack, the preamp jack, and the SDA2Bs. There was some of course. Directly into the Marantz CD player was the best sound. Everything very detailed. Less hiss. More hiss from the preamp jack but still very nice to listen to. Then to the speakers to see what, if anything, I had been missing. Testbed music was Animals by Pink Floyd.

I found that I am not missing very much. I am hearing some things through the headphones that I am missing but not much to be honest. The vocal echoes may not be as long. Less noise through the headphones. What listening through the headphones did do was let me see what to listen to when enjoying the rest of the gear. I can see where a good set of headphones would be a good trouble shooting tool. So get some if you don't have them.

Headphones can be cool but I like a set of speakers and gear that can make the back wall disappear and music that wraps me in the room like a blanket, I have yet to hear a set of Headphones that can do that though the wife would like me to use a set now and then..

I had to buy a set. Wife had minor surgery and wants peace and quiet so I thought I would kill two birds with one stone.

She is doing fine Toolfan66.....thank you. Truth be told I was bummed out because I could not imagine listening to music without the speakers being involved.

    Yep I agree.

The headphones were an eyeopener though. As I stated before my gear is catching most if not all of the detail of the music. The headphones have been showing me what to listen for. Until I heard some of the vocal echos in the earphones I really never heard them but now I do with the speakers. The headphones would definitely be a good tool for someone to be able to hear if their system was operating at a high level.
