This is the saddest post I have read in a long, long time.

Cherry is so much nicer than black, what a shame..

If I HAD to paint them I would do it with that stuff that you spray on that has sand/pebbles in it and has a granite look (Dark Gray) to it...

As long as you're not messing with any of the internal electronics, wires, crossover, drivers, then I wouldn't think it should void the warranty. Painting them is purely cosmetic. It wouldn't hurt to check with Polk though. But like the others said, why would you want to paint them?

A whole tower to have the granite/pebble/sand look? That sounds like about the most ****-ugly thing aesthetically I can think of doin to a speaker......sorry...(unless you're gonna put them outside in the garden)

Make sure you sand the speaker down and get the cherry finish off of the speaker and make the wood smooth again. Then paint it black, black on cherry stain is not good...

new speakers and re-painting is not a good idea.. pass them up if the only option is to paint them.. that would be a waste. hey if you can get a set of Rti38's in cherry im interested:D

I personally would not paint them, but it is possible.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I thought I had heard everythig before. but this one really takes the cake, and frosting too.

I know everyone has their own tastes... some good, some bad. BUT WTF are you thinking? Painting over the beautiful cherry veneer and repainting them black.

Cherry is this year's black.. incase you didn't know. Before you strip them (ugh!) set them up in your house and listen to them for a couple weeks.. by then you'll be so amazed with the sound... you'll forget about the color.

I am so upset by this i'm going to have to beeyotch slap someone.. where's Sid? :p

heh the granite spray can stuff.. No thanks.. i did that a long time ago to a table and the nasty smell never went away.

What i'm thinking is to stain them black.. I mean really the black version really dont look black to me. It looks like dark chocolate.

Yeah i was thinkin that i should get ahold of Polk first and ask before hand.. ya think it may be fine cause its only the cover of the speaker.

So sand them down first eh? Its only a thing veneer. Would'nt i stand a chance to over sand them so much that i'd ruin them?

heh i was thinking just stain them right over that cherry(After a light sanding ofcourse) and it might turn out real dark with a red highlight..hehehe.. That be differenet eh?

Oh.. Its not up to me about the color.. its my decor.. Black and white contemperary look going on in the living room. Wood would not match.

Oh the store thats moving everything out is The Great Indoors.. Everything in the store was either 30-50% off.. So heh as you can see i had to move fast... pisses me off though cause i remember a week or 2 ago someone here saying that the store had cheap Polks and i asked my wife to make the calls and she didnt and i forgot hehe.. Man if i asked then, i might not have this prob with returning the new line cause the cash difference would of been too much to go that route. Plus i bet i would of had the black matching pair..

Pissed me off that there prices wasnt all too cheap on everything though.. Alot of stuff was marked down from the retail price so..

    I got the 70's cherry<--All they had for about 300 a pair. ;)
    Csi40- 174.00 :)
Fxi30- pair 174.00 :0 I know but after owning the Fxi5 i like the looks and they work great for where i'm putting them with all the traffic. They wanted 350.00 for a pair of the Fxi50 :( ****.. For some reason the Fxi30 looked good in the store down on a shelf.. Real nice looking.. My wife said all how cute! hehe.. If you guys like'm i can rest assured they will work fine.

Rti38's they wanted 266.00 for the pair and i was like no thank you.. I got them from CC for 200 a pair.. I dont know if they had cherry or not though.. There was alot of them so its possable.

I also picked up a Psw404- 174 as well i think.. have to call the wife to check. hehe Opps, guess not.. $275 bucks.

i also picked up a a Sanus NF206 Black audio stand.. nice! 400.00 heh.. not.. $300! ;) Wifes are good for something..

So the new and final setup is... Drum roll please..

    Rti70's Front
    Csi40- Center
    Fxi30's -Side rears
    Rti38's- Rear centers
    Psw404- sub

    :)

All that plus a stand and i'm got some change from what i originaly bought. Plus i got a Audio Rack as well.

Oh i forgot i even bought up 200 feet of some bad **** Monster wire XPHP i think it is.. but its super thick stuff.. but alot flatter then the other Monster XPHP-CI stuff i bought before..So thats going back and i'll save some more there cause that stuff cost like 130 bucks a spool of 100' and i bought 3. This stuff will work better for under the carpet runs.. We got it for a $1 a foot but both salesmen said "Hey go ahead and take 300 feet if ya want,we dont care" So for 200 bucks i'm pretty damn sure i got way over 300 Feet cuase he had to measure it our selfs..hehe. I'd love to count it again ehheehe.

They also had 2 or 3 pairs of LSi15's.. Black i'm sure of atleast one pair.. Also LSi7's.. I asked the price of the 15's and he said 1000.00 for the pair.. Is that good? Or should i be happy i didnt jump on them.. i didnt ask the price on the others cause i didnt want to get tempted.. but i tried to sell the wife on them real quick hehe.

Awesome set of speakers.. and a good price too. Price shopping saves you some decent greenbacks. WTG.

I can understand your wanting your fronts to blend in with your decor. Well, think of it this way. Some color, cherry in this case will actually make them stand out from the rest of your decor. Giving them the appeal they deserve. And drawing attention to them. LIke someone said.. once you paint them.. you can never go back. If you're dead set on painting them black.. i wish you good luck.. in all seriousness.. I hope the results are what you are looking for.

Do you have them all set up now, or is that still to come? what is your experience with Polk speakers? I"m in the same camp as (most) everyone else around here.. the RTi70's/RT800i's are some of the best sounding speakers Polk makes in my opinion.

Thanks for the kind words danger..

No there not setup yet.. Yeah i see what ya mean who knows...They wont be painted for some time.. So The wife might forget about it..hehe.. Doubt it but who knows.

I've played around with the Rti100's and 70's,Rti38's for rears and the Csi40.. for the past 3 weeks i'd say. I've also heard the Fxi5's and the new Csi5.. They had been in my house for the past 2 days now... i like'm but i dont think i like the silver finish though... I was hoping that when i get the new Rti set that they would grow on me and be fine.. But in reality the cetner Csi5 kinda grosses me out.. I mean heh i could keep the grill on them and be fine but still.. So i'm kinda happy i'm going back with the 70's sicne they blew me away bi-amped. :)

Now i gota return all of these speakers.. hehee. Damn you guys should see this place! It looks like i have a warehouse in here!

    All boxed:

    2x CSi40
    4x Rti38
    4x Rti70
    Fxi30
    Fxi5
    Csi5
    Psw404
    Velodyne CHT-10

Pretty bad eh? heheh.. yeah my wife thinks so.
Could of been worse if i didnt already return the Rti100's and Veldyne CHT-8

Damn this kinda has been a fun trip!

Now i dont have to worry about buying a new Amp for the Rti12's and i can somehow buy a new 7.1 Receiver and still be under the line up of:
    Rti12's
    Csi5
    Fxi5
    Extra amp another 400-1000.
