Took a quick trip to Target, came back with a couple things missing. Left an ad on craigslist if you guys want to read it.

http://monterey.craigslist.org/ele/2869698661.html

Unfortunately the only thing the video camera footage shows is a car, that seemed to have been waiting, pull up alongside my vehicle a few minutes after I exited and walked into Target.

If I want to keep the tunes rolling, I guess I'll need a headunit. Too bad I'm too broke to buy one at the moment. As for the iPod? That thing was a gift. My Oakleys? They were long due for replacement. Wore them all my times in Iraq too, so they went through a ton of crap.

Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will turn in the piece of crap. Not likely, but it could happen. I hate thieves. Good luck and thanks kawizx9r.

Insurance wont cover the headunit? They should if you have full coverage. As far as the Ipod and Oakleys you are probably SOL. I thought you kept the Ipod in your locked glove box, if so that might help you.

I do have full coverage on the truck, but didn't know they'd cover such a small thing. Won't hurt to ask tomorrow.

As for everything else, like I said in the ad, it's just stuff and I really mean that. We break stuff, we lose stuff, or it gets taken from us, it can all get replaced. I was just appalled to see that the few cigarettes I had left were also taken whereas my student parking pass and burned CD's were not (I keep the original's at home).

Regarding the locked glove box, only the center storage compartment has a lock on it and even then I don't have the key. That's where I had placed the headunit's detachable face since I never leave it on the stereo itself whenever I go anywhere. Funny thing too is, it's the first time I left the face IN the truck...I normally put it in my back pocket after exiting.

Anyway, I drive often each and everyday so driving without tunes will really suck.

PS The cash mentioned in the ad was still in the truck. From the factory, it was equipped with a CD/stereo and a separate cassette unit. I stash a couple of bucks in there whenever I don't feel like using my card at the pump in case I don't have cash on me at the time. Won't do that anymore either now that you guys know!

Depends on the company I guess but when my GPS unit got stolen from my car Christmas Eve 2010 it was covered (as was the window damage where they broke in obviously). It was probably worth like 50 bucks or less since it was a 4 year old unit. I got a much better one to replace it.

I go through USAA. Really though, the headunit wasn't worth much. It's just an inconvenience to have to buy and install another one.

    Yeah, there are plenty.

I'm sure the iPod will fetch the idiots a couple of bucks, not much you can do with a faceplate though if you're trying to sell it locally.

Like I said, these guys/girls needed a quick buck and it's probably to feed into whatever the hell they're stuck on. You guys ever see that show Intervention?

Sorry to hear that idiots stole your stuff. I had some idiots break into my BMW in front of the Tracy, California mall and try to steal my Alpine 7525 head unit, but they couldn't even get it out of the dash. So, they settled for taking the face plate. They also stole my Alpine 5959 CD changer and 7316 Amp. They missed the second 7316 amp though. Idiots.

If I had an extra face plate for your head unit I'd send you one, unfortunately I only have extra ones for the 7525. I may have an extra Alpine stereo I could send you possiby. Let me check it out as I can't remember what I have as far as car stereos go. They are all definately over 15 years old though. If you are looking for a newer one (like your 9856), unfortunately I can't help out there.

F1, I too was curious and wow....the faceplates alone are all $80+!

Greg, that' very kind of you! However, I can't take you up on your offer I mean like I said it wasn't an expensive headunit to begin with.

Seeing as how the faceplate alone is a bit pricey, I figure I should spend a little more and get a new or higher-end used one. My only requirement? Detachable face and 2 sets of preamp outputs. That and I won't leave the window cracked...not even a 1/4 of an inch!!!

I thought I would offer because I know how it feels to have idiots steal your car stuff.

When you get a new one, just remember to take the faceplate off.......ALWAYS. That was the lesson I learned. Unfortunately, I also learned that the window rolled up all the way doesn't matter as the idiots that stole my car stereo out of my BMW simply broke out the window. Needless to say I installed an alarm very quickly after that. Hopefully, your truck has one too. If you get a 7525 it had 2 sets of pre-outs and although it's almost 20 years old now is still one of the best Alpine head units ever made. Mine still works perfectly. It has a cassette deck (which I still use actually) and a CD changer attachment (which I also use). If you are just looking for CD in the unit, it's not for you though. It's a very very good head unit though and probably can be had cheap now although I haven't looked it up in about 6 years.

They are pretty good with a screwdriver, too. Turns out they can break the cheap plastic
around a f150 lock assembly by ramming in a long screwdriver, pry down, and then just turn it to
open the door. They were in and out in minutes. I had my work Platt tool bag behind the seat,
and they didn't even see it. There was a crew working the best buy parking lot.
Cops took forever, seems there were 20 break ins reported almost at the same time.
I hope they overdosed and died.

I had someone break into my truck back in the mid 90s when I was in the army. It was parked in a parking lot next to a field where we did PT. There were also a few more vehicles that got hit that morning in that lot. They must have got into the truck after we went on a run. The idiots took a cd case for Rush 'Hemispheres' but did not get the disc because it was in the cd player. I was shocked they did not try to take the cd player. They also got my wallet with a grand total of six bucks in it. I got a phone call from the MPs later that morning telling someone found my wallet minus the money on the side of the road next to a post housing area. I hope it was worth it for the ****. Everytime I listen to Hemispheres, I think of those scumbags. I hope they either od'd or got caught doing some other crime they graduated to and now have to be a cell mate to some Shaq sized alpha male.

Yeah it's not a problem. You remember the FIRST time I had a car break in right? It was in Chicago! Passenger side window was smashed in and the entire car was gone through with crap everywhere. Apparently the 'give away' was the slight residue that the suction cup leaves for my GPS mount. They had to break the locked glove compartment to get at anything; I never leave anything out for show.

Btw, just saw your PM from the other day!

Yeah truck was locked up, I always lock it. Also, nothing was exposed...not even my car stereo remote. If a thief walks by a car and there's nothing out in the open, I figure he/she would move right along until he finds an easy-grab-item.

Thing is, I left the window slightly open and I mean barely...you couldn't get a hand through it unless you were an anorexic teen. Coming back to my truck, things were shifted and out of place. Glove compartment was open, visors were off the hook, and all my small compartments were also open. Guess they did a brief search of everything and the only things of value were my favorite shades, my iPod, and a damn stereo faceplate. My cigarettes as well, but I need to stop smoking anyway..they did me a favor there.

I know right, though I'm glad I didn't. I would have gone apeshit....you don't go through hell and back just to come back home and have to worry about someone breaking into your vehicle for a quick buck. Fortunately for him/her/them I wasn't there, and I'm not trying to sound like a badass here by any means but I'm definitely not a pushover.

Good idea on the dummy face!

Well, had my comprehensive deductible been $0 I would've been covered. However, it's $500 so basically nothing is covered.

Only things that are considered are the iPod touch (which surprisingly was valued at $224 by the adjuster), but the stereo was a tad below the iPod. Had the sunglasses been included, then it'd be just over $500 but that's not the case.

So, everything's coming out of pocket. I'll have to look for a factory radio since I didn't get one with my truck. Use that for the time being until I replace it with an after-market deck then hack off the face of the factory radio to use as a dummy.

Btw, lowered my comprehensive to $0. Only $5 more bucks each month, if only I knew! Anyway, USAA is a great company and I only pay $365 every 6 months for 2 cars, the truck being full coverage and the car being liability.

I never lock my car because it's more expensive to fix a cut convertible top than replacing anything I leave in the car. I let it look junky even though I have a decent stereo system. Yesterday I got in my car, and someone had left a cd case with a variety of cd's on my back seat. I haven't had anyone ride with me in a while, so it's a mystery. But that's key west

So my headunit arrived today, an Alpine 9830. It's an older unit, and had the small requirements I needed. Bought it on fleabay and as my luck would have it, the display broke/cracked! I'd say it happened during shipping seeing as how the picture posted in the ad showed a nice clear display. When do things turn around? lol
