A pair of Mirage M490s arrived at my house today. I won the bid earlier in the week. Got here fast and I was psyched. Opened up the box and there was NO packing. The speakers were shoved in a box with nothing around them. There was maybe a 1/4 inch of room all around. There was a 12" x 12" piece of bubble wrap sitting on top (big friggin deal).

Anyway, here is the description of the speakers from the seller: I have a set of 2 very nice mirage speakers that both work wonderfully and have little scratches but are scratched a lot on the bottoms. I've tested both and they work amazingly if you have any questions please ask thanks for looking.

There were many scratches on the bottom, and many scratches all over the speakers. Also, one tweeter was out and one of the woofers were seperated from the voice coil. Total crap and did not mirror the sellers description at all.

I sent a firm message stating how disappointed I was and wanted my money back. Suprisingly enough, he refunded me the full amount, including shipping.

I am out the cost to get them back to him, but all in all I feel lucky.

Yep that sucks, but atleast the seller was responsive. It could have been worse. But I know the feeling, you want the speakers not the money.

If it helps I'm getting ready to sell a pair of minty Polk RTi-38's in original box and packing. I just don't need them. If you are interested PM me for details. Illinois to Ohio won't be so bad.

I don't know. I emailed for his address but have not heard back yet. I made one good speaker out of the two.

Seems like in the past year or so, there are more of these fleabay horror stories coming out. Good reason to just buy used gear from the trusted Club Polk members here.

speaker shipping-bad idea. Normally a horror story. Go get them.
or at least have them on a pallet. Heavy boxes mean lots of rough handling.

Yeah the FM always has what I'm looking for:rolleyes:

Point me in the direction of all these horror stories as I would like to see them. Most people don't have the common sense to own some gear let alone the common sense it takes to pack it and ship it. Anyone wanting to ship big speakers needs to stop and think what would happen if I just pushed these over and they hit the floor? Humm how and what can I use to pack these to withstand that kind of fall?

They can be shipped just the idiot shipping them has no brains..

So you got your money back then you modified them?

One of the worst packing jobs I've ever seen came from a trusted club member. He just blamed in on the UPS store.

The guy refunded his money with no hassles, before he even returned the speakers. I don't see a horror story here.
