I just started searching for a pair of SDA's for a friend and ran into this ridiculous ebay auction - I can't believe they want $950 plus S&H for an original pair of SDA-2's. Just thought i'd share my outrage...

It looks like a couple people have already commented on the price of the speakers. And they also did list them with the option to make an offer. Additionally, like the one commented stated - the shipping will almost surely be over $195, so depending on the offer that is accepted this could be a good deal

    $950 is crazy.

    ^^^^ +1 ^^^^ Super crazy.

But if they sell, I have a set of 2B's that I'd be willing to part with for $800. :loneranger:

Those aren't original 2's. They never came with sl2000 tweeters. They are a later generation and could even be early 2A's.

I thought only the first version had the two dimensional tweeters - did the 2A's also have two?

Good catch, Brock. But regardless of the specific model, or even if they had RDO's in them, they still wouldn't be worth anywhere near $950... before shipping!

Some 2A's did. It doesn't matter on the "label" those have sl2000 tweets so they are later generation, not the original 1st gen 2's. They tend to bring marginally more $$$, but not close to $950 shipped.

Come on Brock the way Polk was known for using up parts they could very well be original boxes and drivers but they just ran short of SL1000's and sub'd SL2000 instead.....it's is possible

I bought my SDA 2 while stationed in Landstuhl Germany oct/nov 1985.
I just pulled out a tweeter it is a SL2000 stamp date in red is 6/12/1985 .
I was under the impression this was the first version

so when did they start making the SDA2 and what years did they release the later versions ?

    thanks Kent

There are no hard and fast years. You have to look at the grills, cabinets, drivers/tweeters, sda cable, configuration to know for sure what you have. If someone buys Polk speakers new in 1986 and the inspection date on the tweeter is october 1986 and in 1991 they blow and replace a tweeter that tweeter will have an inspection date from 1991. Does that mean the speaker itself was manufactured in 1991? No, it was a 1986 model with a 1991 tweeter. So those dates on the components mean very little some 20-30 years later.

Since these speaker have been in my possession since 1985 except on the slow boat back to USA from Germany ...
and I have made no modification, I am sure these speakers are 100% original...

so SDA2 did come with SL2000 ... at least mine did.
Guess it was some kind of cruel joke played an the poor old US Army service member in Germany ....

    I feel so abused

Just to prove the point that there are no hard and fast rules, my 2B's that I purchased the last day of 1987 are walnut veneer (real wood). By 1989 when whatever you are reading said the were first produced, I had thousands of hours on them.
