2parter/ store gone / almost got speakers

Hi guys, I was traveling on RT22 yesterday and saw that another 6TH AVE store has been closed.This is the second one in central Jersey that I've found closed up and this one was much larger than the East Brunswick store.
Now onto the speakers. I saw a pair of baby ADVENTS w/ the wood in not to bad of shape ,but pulling the grills both the surrounds were rotted out .At first they wanted $50 for the pair then I grab the manager and said look at this nonsense what can you really do .He lowered to about $25 and considering a new foam kit is about the same would the effert be worth it to get these if they are still around. I would more than likely use them as my zone 2 on my Yamaha 665 just to change up from the Klipschs and the Infinitys. The refoaming looks like maybe an hours worth of patient work but is the return worth it.

    I have a pair of those myself that a refoamed a while ago. They are nice little speakers for casual listening but nothing to write home about. The tweeters are known to be a bit fragile and as you mentioned, the surrounds generally need to be replaced. I honestly wouldn't pay more than $10-15 for a pair in that condition but i'm pretty economical (read cheap).

    Also - aren't those speakers 4ohm? What is your yammy rated for?

    Yes, those are pretty decent speakers. Definitely a differnt sound than current Polks. They are rather inefficient so a stout amp should be used.

    Yo guys,after hearing what you had to say about them I called Yamaha and they said my avr cannot handle 4ohm speakers and would be a waste of time and eventually fry the amp.Thanks again to you, I would of refoamed them ,they probably would look great and then destroy my avr. 8 ohms it is.BTW they had 1 single large Advent in very bad shape and wanted $60 for the single.

    my Adcom 555 would blow the sh-t out of them.But I'm saving up for maybe some Wharfdales.
