Just picked up a Pioneer Elite BDP-05 -- $40 bucks! I did not need another one but figured I could use it in the family room for blu-ray and SACD and have a "backup". It's in excellent condition (better than the one I already owned) with remote, hdmi cable. The guy said he got a 3D player and didn't need this anymore. Also said he received about 5 more calls after I called him.

That's a great price for a machine that does an excellent job with pic and sound. And is a pretty decent CD player as well. I use mine with my Nakamichi pre-amp and Adcom GFA-545--pretty happy with how my CDs sound with this. I believe, that it does NOT do SACD though!

Wow, all this time I thought it did play SACDs. Upon further review ... I guess it was an even better find than I thought. I have an SACD on order and now I can put my old DVD player - HK 47 - into my 2-channel since it plays SACDs (hopefully fairly well). Thanks for the heads up.7.3 HT: Sunfire TGR-3, Sunfire Series II, Mirage OMD-28, OMD-5 (x4), REL T1 (2), T2, Oppo 103D, Optoma HD8200PRO, 106" screen, SB Touch

It's a better deal cause the Blu-Ray drives in the BDP-51/05/09 are all the same and are now dying at an alarming rate.... I think Pioneer wants $300 for a replacement drive but I heard that they are running out.

Why should these particular drives be "dying" out so fast and in such great numbers? I haven't heard anything about this. And mine has been working flawlessly for years? Can you provide some support for that? These are fairly well built units.
The 09 is pretty far up the food chain. Maybe Mantis can chime in here. He must have some first hand experience with this.
Don't doubt you; it's just hard to believe when I look at my own unit!
The other factor here is the "endless" series of firmware upgrades that these units have had! Perhaps this is involved?
