The Sources are a hybrid electrostatic speaker with a 5 ohm impedance. The Martin Logan ElectroMotion speakers are the newest line and I believe they replace the Source. The EM's have improved bass integration and the stator panel is improved with more surface area which helps out their inherent directional issues. Plus, at 6 ohms they're a little easier to drive and their design is so much nicer than the Sources. I haven't heard the Source but from what I've read they sound similar to the EM's but lack a little bass and are a bit brighter. I have heard the EM's and I've never heard better sound in my life. Instruments seem to float around the room and you can't tell where the sound is really coming from.
In my haste to get my hands on electrostats I once considered trying to snag a pair of Sources when they would eventually dip down to $500 each but I've since decided to wait and save for the Electromotions as they are my dream speaker. Good luck with whatever you purchase!TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

I have Crown eletrostatic speakers, now in storage. Increadably transparent sound stage, increadably large but a low WAF factor. I have found the Martin Logan electrostatic speakers very unpleasant.Panasonic 65" Plasma - Panasonic Blu-ray. Onkyo TX-NR809 RTi A7s fronts - MK CS150s surronds.

Every Logan I heard anyway, had a very small sweet spot, good speaker in general though, don't want to take anything away from them. Just not my cup of tea. Maggies can have a great sounstage but are alittle more finicky on setup, but well worth it. Like John said, augment the bottom with a musical sub and you can be set for along time.HT SYSTEM-

I own the ML source se in black and have to say they are just awesome. I hear alot of ML owners saying they are a great gateway drug but this would falsely imply your missing something from the bigger models. The source is a truly wonderful speaker and you can get that front row concert sound with just a couple of watts. Having heard nearly all the the ML models I have to say that you get more of the same sound that the source will provide. As far as panel and woofer goes the integration although not as good as larger panels is still great and I cant tell where one starts and ends after owning a pair for nearly 2 yrs
My only beef with the source is that the sweetspot is smaller than some other Logans but this is because the panel is smaller (28inch) . What this means is that if your going to be on the couch for a 2hr movie then you will have to tilt the speaker forward so the panel is completely vertical. When you do this you get the full sound but when you stand up you notice it vanishing so when you listen to music you should tilt them back if you wana fill the room
For $1200 you get a pair of speakers that retailed around $2200 2 yr ago and they were voted best entry level high end speaker under $2000 . The xstat is the most accurate way to reproduce sound period. If you have more money to spend then do not go for the electromotions or the maggie 1.7's because right not AudioAdviser is having a close out of the ML Vista for 2K and thats the best deal ever. I myself took delivery of some Vistas last week and the panel on them is 12 inches larger than the source and the woofer is aluminum but this can be a curse with my lower watt tube setup
What ever you do just take your time and do not rush. Read reviews and have fun learning -
Thanks for all the info everyone. I have decided to purchase these mint condition rarely used source speakers for $700 for the pair. For the money I think they are hard to beat. Whatcha think?
