I've posted about this player before, it had issue reading all disks. Replaced the laser pickup this week and it plays SACD and DVD disks with zero issue. Standard CD, no such luck. It hardly will even recognize the disk, when it finally does, it plays no problem.

Any ideas?

Did you replace the entire laser assembly or just the optical p/u? There may be seperate adjustments (small trim pots on the cd assembly pcb) that can be adjusted - generally there are a few test points labeled on the pcb that you can monitor with a scope while you adjust for the best eye pattern, amplitude etc.

    I replaced the optical pickup.

If the laser needed to be aligned, would it play other disks no problem?

I am not sure if there are seperate adjustments for the different lasers - if we had a service manual we could determine that...

I suppose there is also the possibility that you got a bum replacement part. Sorry I couldn't be of more help - anyone have specific experience adjusting these settings on a multi-media player like this?

Oh - i'm sure this isn't the issue, but just to be certain, you did remove the solder "blob" that is on the ribbon cable of new optical pickups? generally they ship with a little bridge of solder on one end of the cable which must be removed before the unit will function...

Solder was removed, the marantz player only has one laser to read all the disks...

Would it help if I emailed some pics of the assembly?

I don't think I'll be much help without the service manual but you may want to post some pics on this thread so others can chime in.

What is the model number on your optical pick up and where did you buy it?
