Can anyone give me an idea as to how well a pair of rti38's will work as rears to my current rt55's? How off will the timber be with these two different tweeters?

    Subtle differences.

In an HT setting, I doubt most would even notice that they aren't *perfectly* matched.

Sincerely, you think the difference wouldn't be perceptible in HT use?

I agree with Russman, the difference would be minimal. Side by side, perhaps they would stand out, but otherwise you should be fine.

Sometimes using two different tweeters like that can make a cymbal sound exactly correct because the two different areas covered are blended into one-i have tried this before.. Some were kinda **** but some were breathtaking..i think that with the polks being from the same blood line will probably make a more accurate "OVERALL" sound- :)

I don't think that comparing the RTi38 and RT600i is exactly accurate, same tweeter yes, but two different cabinets.

Ok, how about this then. How would a pair of rti38's sound when matted to rt55 fronts and a cs400i center?

The center channel, CS400i, will be pushing most of the traffic for HT. I don't think you will notice a big difference.

I think the most obvious audible differences with that setup, would be in multi-channel music. Trey has a valid comment now that I think more about it. If you do not listen to 5.1 Music, then it doesn't matter.

I should have said same TYPE of tweeter, but still the comparison is not fair. Those tweeters sound very similar to me.

    Sean,

Really, it probably depends on one's ears, so that could very well be true.

I went thru 3 years of loud explosions, so mine may be out of warranty.

    Dangit,
I'll be blunt. The i38 and 35i sound great. Both of em. However they both have their own traits. The i38 sounds like a friggin blanket grilled speaker with a major cold. It has more slam than the 35i. However still has its own appeal in sound.
The 35i is a musical speaker. It likes it clear, natural and detailed. I have at my hands a RTi70 and a RT35i and I can not tell you how much better the RTi70 would sound if it had the old drivers in it.

This is based on my opinion, not slamming any of the speaker. They both sound good in their own given way, but I must regress - I would buy the RT35 or RT35i. Just not the i38. Again, not slamming anything.

There is a tiny bit more to building a speaker than replacing drivers. I think that the design crew at Polk would string you up for a comment like that Trey.

What form are you regressing to? Or do you mean digress? ;)

Call Polk cs in the morning, ask Ken Swauger if any 'common' man will notice a difference front your planned front to rear stage.

Sid, shut the F up already. Go hit the playstation - ride your bike.

Doro, Sean may very well have the ears of a bat.

    You ****. Gravy ****.

Anyone ever hear of a speaker that sounds great yet sounds like it has a major cold and is covered with a blanket? I know when I get like that, I sound terrible.

    Troy,
I'm not even going to defend myself, if you wish to continue do so but my participation is no more.

You read my post with a straight forward for word with absolutely no thinking involved. Thats all I can gather.

I will comment though, that I never said the 35 or 38 is a good speaker. I said they were good in their own way. Which pretty much means, where one fails, the other succeeds, and so forth. See, if you would have read that and placed it together you would know this. However you didn't.

    Goodbye!
