Cabinet cooling fans

I was wondering if anybody has any advice on a cabinet cooling fan, and where to purchase. I was reading that some computer fans are kind of noisy when there running. I"m having a custom cabinet mad with a removable back so I can slide all the equipment in, and then hook up all the interconnects before installing the back. I would like to be able to mount the fan in the 1/2" removable back. I am currently running all gear thru the PS Audio AV 5000, so I was hoping to just plug the fan into the line conditioner so it would come on with the rest of the equipment.

Thanks Dave

I use two of these mounted to the back of the cabinet:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186121

I run them off a 5v wall wart instead of 12v. They were quiet to begin with, but on 5v you can't hear them at all, even a foot away. Sadly Newegg doesn't seem to have them anymore, but you may be able to find them elsewhere.

Added cooling fans to an audio cabinet years ago.

Be prepared for the dust that will accumulate in the cabinet and on the componets.

I was hoping that the cabinet would help with the dust issue. I was thinking of a hinged glass door on the front. Are you saying that the fan will pull in the dust from the room into the cabinet? Maybe if I purchase one with a speed control that I could just move enough air to disapate the heat generated.

Yes the fan will pull in dust from the room. The more flow you have the more dust. Definetly use the least amount of flow to remove the heat. Dusty cooler components are certainly better than crispy overheated ones. Just be prepared to vacuum the cabinet and components from time to time.

Just a few things to remember.

Always use the fans for exhausting heat, not blowing in. Blowing it can cause pressure differences and cause heat pockets.

Run the largest cpu fan you can. Larger Fans run slower and create less noise but still move alot of cfm. I have a 230mm over my elite. dead quiet but cools better then dual 120mm fans, that where much louder.
