Well went shooping around a few CC stores today, Brett will love this , I was being cheap and was looking for deals, open box, and what ever.. Greedy CC wouldnt discount their last pair of Rti38's or a pair of Rti70's.. was just checking... not that i needed them.. well the last store i stopped at.. They had a set of Rt8's and a cs3.. first off i didnt listen to them.. But looks alone i'm not impressed.. The grill is flimsy.. not magnetic like some said. and hard to get off and on,. The fancy looking spikes pictured in all the pics we seen looked metal, they are cheapy plastic.. the power port looks funky on the back and its different then the current line.. I only seen the black ones today so maybe the cherry would make them look better.. anyway i will not be changeing them out anytime soon, I like my plain solid black hefty looking speakers ...

Personally, I like the look........but it would all depend on if you have a silver tie-in (TV, Receiver, other Sources, etc).

No need to hang onto the past faster........revel in your cheapness.....;)

the silver wasnt really the factor for me, i like the silver that was on my psw404.. It was the cheap **** grill.. flimsy.. and the cheap plastic spikes.. a bunch of cheap looks.. hey i guess they would actually suit me good, eh?

I have only seen the 12's at this point, but the spikes didnt' appear to me to be cheap. I can understand the grill feel, but really.........why does that matter? I think that I had originally mentioned that the grills looked magnetic, but in reality they're not, which is fine by me as well. If/when I get the 12's, I wouldn't keep the grills on at all. The look of that tower of drivers in your face is VERY VERY appealing......NO need to cover it up.

I think they re-designed the grills like that cause of alot of people complaining about the grills not holding on tight.. I've noticed this with one side of both the 100's and the 70's.. The bottom edge would'nt hold and would lift off..

These new grills are on there super tight and aint gona slip for nothing.. It takes me quite a while to carefully get them off.

true they are tight, The spikes are plastic like cones.. they arent no metal like mine... But i guess doable... far as the 12's.. agreed if i had em i would leave offfff the grills with all those drivers. I love my 150's even with the grills off.. except my little one decided she likes woofers also.. :D

But what do you all think about the fact that the speaker grills have no sides and, consequently, will not keep the dust out? For some reason, I have a lot of dust in my house and I just know that a lot of dust would accumulate on and around the speaker cones. I just like the fact that I can remove the grills from my 5 year old RT35's and they look brand new without a spec of dust.

Good point jim.. yeah i have the Fxi5 and the Csi5 and both grills are not tight on all four corners.. I never even thought about it.. shocking really.

There going back though.. Keepin the old Rti line since i like the looks better and i wont have to buy another amp to run the Rti12's.

yeah the silver trim on the speakers are infact plastic.. I hoped that it was'nt but it is.. kind of a speckly silver paint job.

Jim: Excellent observation about the dust. You know, the new Polk grills seem to be similar to the Klipch Synergy line of grills that Best Buy sales. The Klipch grills stand off and are open on all sides in the same way. I remember not liking the grill style as much as my RTi style grills at the time.

Eclypse: Plastic faces are just plain yuck in my opinion and has the look and feel of cheap.

So are you saying that if you put the grills on all the way that there are no gaps between the grill and the speaker on the sides? The CC near me only has a center a small bookshelf in. On both of those there is a good 1/4 inch space between the grill and the speaker. Maybe it's because they just did not put the grill on all the way.

I heavily encourage any and all who are displeased with the construction and look of the new speakers, to express their feelings to Polk. Be nice, curtious, and informative. Bashing is ignored accordingly, thus defeating the purpose of contact.

:D LOL! Yeah, I have a 6 year old daughter that is taking gymnastics and a 9 year old daughter that is into cheerleading. I'll have to see the new speakers for myself before passing judgement and I will then pass along my feelings to Polk.

I do like the Fxi5's.. I wish they would of made all the speakers like that with that flat black around the speakers.. heh i was even imagining painting the silver with flat black. Now if it was metal with silver plating.. that would look cool. The plastic makes a good speaker look cheap.

It would be cool if Polk had an option for the advanced user to buy different face plates in the color of your choosing.. Now isint that a great idea! hehe. Or like how they probably would do it is just have another option of the face color on top of what color speaker, BK or Cherry... but yeah the interchangeable face plate prob make it easier for them to manufacter then a million of this color and a million of this.. ect..

i've got the cables.. but what is a top notch DVD player? I bought the Samsung DVD-HD931 for this tv since it has the DVI Out.. Its ok.. but i'm thinking there could be better. When you use the DVI cable it sends a 1080i picture to the Tv since can look blocky.. but i may just be sitting alittle close to it.. Inorder to use the Progessive mode on it i have to use the RGB cable out and then i can select 480p,720p,1080i.. I cant tell which one i like better. Both kinda blocky..Its fine when theres no action or fast movement.. but as soon as there is its like something cant keep up and i dont know if its the DVD players or the TV.

So its been in the back of my mind ever since i got the tv runing that the DVD player might be going back.

If ya have any input please do.. THis is my first Progressive scan player sicnce i've never had a big screen before.

indeed, that DLP looks awesome! Congrats! do you have a link with details on this DLP? Samsung seems to kick **** nowadays, wasn't even on the radar screen 2 years ago.

There are tons of great DVD Progressive, try out:

    Denon DVD-2900/2200/5900
    Pioneer Elite DV47i

While you at it, go with Multichannel SACD/DVD-A setup also...:)

Check out Crutfield.com for the stats and pics

Also here note that what they show is the old model.. The new model is HLN617W.

There is a HUGE demand for this Tv.. I had to wait about a month for it when the salesmen promised me i'd have it in 2 weeks.. The same store had 7 orders for it and i think i was the first in line.. nation wide for ABC Warehouse was in the 300+ Range before they stoped takin orders till they could fill the ones they had.

The word on the Net is that if you can find one buy it! hehehe.

Samsung cant make them fast enough! ;) The picture never will burn out burn in.. Use it for gaming (XBOX) no worries.. Use it for a Computer monitor..again you can! hehe. None of the problems of Plasma and half the price and most likely twice the size.. The technology is really taking off and getting attention.. I think this will be what will win over the LCD and plasma in the future. High yield productions equals less cost and less cost for you.. They say in another year or 2 they will be half as cheap if not more.. Most likely what the mass consumer will buy hehe.

I have a bad **** DLP_Brochure.pdf.. Really shows what it can do and i cant find where i got it from.. I know its from samsung but i just did a search all over there site and its not coming up with anything.. if ya want it PM me and i'll send it to ya in email.. its fairly small around 500KB's
