Need thoughts on new speakers
Well in the next month or so I'm going to slowly start up grading my system. My listening is 50% movies/gaming and 50% music. When we built our house I made a theater room which is 18' by 26' and sound proofed. All walls are insulated with acoustical insulation as well the ceiling is done the same but with the addition of sound board and 1" sound bar
Currently running a Onkyo HT RC 370 receiver with a Emotiva XPA 5 amp. Rti 12 mains,CsiA 6 center and FxI 4 surrounds with two 12" velodyne max subs.
Want to start with getting new towers. Currently looking at Polk Lsim 707's as can get them at a great price( almost half of msrp price) Was looking at others . Paradigm, klipsh to name a few. Was looking to spend around $2500.
I am looking for any input on which brand to go with and as a side note I am not looking for advice on amps or anything as I know already that someone will chim in on getting a better amp. Just input on speakers
I also should note that I live in Canada
Thanks

Wow! Where can you get a pair of LSiM at half their MSRP? I mean, not that I want them as that even a 1000$ per pair LSiM703 would be too much for me atm, but it would be interresting to know! Is it because you have some kind of contact?
Anyways, I would say that at half their MSRP, they are worth a shot for sure! Why not get a pair of LSiM703 with a killer sub? :P or what about the LSi705?
Because if you're to get a better amp, you'll go over your budget by at least a grand if you go for the LSiM707 route. Anyways, I tell you, at this price, you can't go wrong. I mean, there is probably a lot of people who might buy them for a price near their MSRP that would never look back.Speakers: Polk Audio LSiM 705, LSiM 703, LSiM 704c

Yes you could say I have a very good "contact" -
Get the 707's and a better amp.
First reply and already it starts with getting a better amp. Really!!
I'm sure this has been covered before. Can we let the amp thing go and focus just on speakers. I understand that to get the speakers to sound the way they should you need a good amp. I will get to that in time
Thank you -
Stilly, your XPA-5 will drive any speaker very will.It is a good amp.Are there better amps out there?Sure, they are for 3 to 5gs.Some of these guys in here just don't like Emotiva for what ever reason thats just them.I had Carvers and like them too.Had an Adcon once way back and it was a good amp too. Some of these guys in here just like steppin on peoples gear who knows why maybe they have short man syndrome?..lolo.Just wear some hipboots when you come in here cause the bullsh$t gets deep..lolo.

Did you really think you would dodge the "get a better amp" histeria from guys on this forum? Not with this crowd. Now about speakers...the new Polk LSiM line is fantastic & they would be a steal at the price of admission you can get from your contact. But if you can get your ears on the KEF line I highly recommend them also. The new Q series & R series are within your price range. I fell for the Q900's the first time I heard them...my LSi 15's now have a new home, & I really enjoyed the 15's. Good luck & don't worry about another amp, you're just fine."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -

If you can get a good deal on the LSIM's go for it. Another speaker I like a lot is Dynaudio, Their Focus Series sounds great. Mantis can tell you all about them, since he has had them.

Never heard Kef before but we have a store (visions electronics) that does carry the Q line. I will give them a listen. But do you think the Q line would be comparable to the Lsim line of Polk . Think I would need to go up another line in the Kef's .
-
The kef's sound great and deserve a listen for their price. Not to mention they will be a hell of a lot easier to drive than the LSIM's which would open up a lot of options later on for amps. (and no that doesn't mean you need one or the xpa isn't good)

The Q line should compare, price wise, to the LSi line. Right now, I think Visions is having some kind of special like 1700$ for a pair of Q900). I know MSRP doesn't mean a lot, but if you compare, MSRP for Q900 is 2000$ a pair and MSRP for LSiM 707 is 2000$ each... seems like apple and orange to me... but the KEF are worth a try for sure!
And the LSiM being 8 ohms speakers with 88 dB sensitivity, I do not think your amp would struggle at a reasonnable level... but the KEF, with a 91 dB sensitivity would be way easier to drive.Speakers: Polk Audio LSiM 705, LSiM 703, LSiM 704c

LSI-Ms, in their price range. Very very very hard to beat! Get your ears on some, then buy them!

I doubt you can go wrong with LSi Ms based in what folks here who have heard them are saying. But do try to listen to the other choices available. You may like something else and save a few bucks.
+1 on the KEFs for bang for the buck. I like mine more than my modded LSi 9s :-) And I love my LSis.ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

I haven't got to hear them yet but i've heard a lot of great things about the Def Tech Mythos line, i'd at least check em out.

I know sound is very subjective, but from what I read, some people prefer the Q series to the LSi series, and for some, it's the other way around. Either way, I do not know if they can be compared to the LSiM, at least, price wise.
But, do not limit yourself to these brands, even if I think what a pair of LSi707 at this price is kinda a great bargain, considering they're a new line. There is a lot of wonderful towers for around 2000-2500$, even if I know it's sometime hard to find a dealer for some brands.Speakers: Polk Audio LSiM 705, LSiM 703, LSiM 704c

Are you willing to buy a pair of used speakers in great condition? If so, there are LOTS of options at $2500. I'd be looking at Legacy Audio Focus or something from JM Labs Electra series. Many, many good used speakers in that price range.

I'm on the tall side. I have also listened to some of their amps, sub-par sound. I suggested a better amp because the speakers his is considering would greatly benefit from it. Even he seems to realize that, so your comments are without merit.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks anyway but save it for later -
I don't want to hear about amps. I posted in the speaker section as I am looking for options on " speakers"
Thanks anyway but save it for later
One step at a time! I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever speaker you choose and your current amp. I've seen 1500$ worth of speakers driven by a 600$ integrated and was quite pleased with the results, even if they were "underpowered". Could have it been better? Sure, but it was heavenly for a 2000$ setup! Add another 1000$ in electronics and sure, you'll have better sound... but stick to your budget.
As long as you get the speakers you want now, you can save for a better amp later. This way, you won't end up with a pair of speakers you'll regret later because you had to "reduce your budget to get a better amp now". I mean, as long as you're not using a receiver as your main power source, you're in the game IMO. As in any domains, price/performance gain ratio in hi-fi is following something like a bell curve: you have the cheap performance/cheap price things, following by the still cheap performance items with a premium price tag / then items with a little higher price tag with great performance; then what we could qualify as audiophile best bang for your buck... and then it drops when you cross the higher-end items. When you step up the 3 or 4k tag, you need to invest a lot of money to see any measurable gains, but these gains exist and are worthy to some. Some people might not agree, but I do not know a lot of reasonnable persons who could seriously tell me that a 15 000$ amp offer him a performance worth 15 times those of a 1000$ amp.
By the way, if you have some dealers around, try to buy them with a 30 days refund, just in case you're not statisfied, which I am quite sure any shop provides except for final sales. This way, you can try them at your home for a few days, return them, grab another pair, listen again and keep whatever speakers you prefer.
The only thing I'm not sure about is mixing 2500$ worth of speaker with a 500$ center channel... your principal "HT speaker" would be kinda weak and of a different timbre. However, for music, it'll be a totally different game Good luck!Speakers: Polk Audio LSiM 705, LSiM 703, LSiM 704c

And then some. Don't make such a quick judgement based solely on a speaker line's price. The new KEF "R" series is the match for Polk's LSiM line strictly on a price basis. However you might not like the R series as well as the Q series & vise versa. How they compare to the LSiM series is no more than one's own listening preferences."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
