My Onkyo died....new avr advise?

Well....The Onk 807 lost all output stages. It will run the sub out and will push the center in Port (ipod dock) mode , but that's it. I was wondering if it would be worth trying to fix or I should just junk it. I would like to get , just off hand, a Pioneer Elite SC-37, but I don't know if that's the best route for the money. I have about $800 in the Onkyo, and I know it isn't worth but about $200 now, so should I try to fix it, or just buy new?

As always.....any thoughts appreciated...

Brother

.....One good thing... gave me a good excuse to do a shutdown.....I took both of my Carvers to the electronics guy for new led meter lamps....

There is a fantastic pioneer sc05 with the ice amps from a well respected member for a super reasonable $500

I would go for that instead of a costly fix as the pioneers are number one

I think you'd be pretty happy with that Pioneer honestly.

+1 on being an unhappy Onkyo customer. I had a 3008 for about 35 days and it broke, thank god I got it from Amazon and they let me return it anyways.

No... I have a 905 and a 906... Both have DTS HD Master decoding issues which reappeared with the Star Wars Blu-Ray discs last September. Onkyo will not update the firmware for the DSP since both units are post warranty... i.e. I'm screwed. Pioneer, Yamaha and Denon with the same DTS decoder DSP had the same issue and they quickly updated their DSPs.

SC-05 for $500? Not even a coin toss, IMHO.

Thanks, all, for the replies..... If I had to buy right now, (and I had a pile of money sitting next to me), I'd probably have a pioneer SC-55 or 57 on the way. I talked to a friend who has a friend who is a Yamaha dealer and can possibly get me a good price on one, so I might end up with one of their Aventix(?) models. so who knows where I'll end up.....

I sympathize, but is that "all" that's wrong? Those are still "great" units.

To OP, have no idea what the cost of repair would be on that? The 807 was a decent unit but Onkyo did start to downgrade the Audio amp section of the 80X series after its peak with the 805.

That Pioneer would be a good replacement, BTW!
