Can't believe what they're teaching our kids!

This is a true story. Some of you might find it quite disturbing.
So, my daughter is in the middle of her junior year of high school, and she comes home one day this week and says, "Dad, I have to tell you what my teacher told the class today. You won't believe it!"
Hmmm. She goes on to say that it's her Foundations of Technology class, which she just started this semester.
The teacher was explaining to the class that a computer used to fill an entire room. Ok... Eventually, they were shrunk to desktop size, and eventually laptop. Now, today's smartphones have more computing power and storage than some computers from only a decade ago. Ok, cool. He says that technology has allowed people to make things smaller and smaller, while also improving performance.
Here's the kicker - he goes on to tell the class, "Another example is speakers. We used to have to have these big stereo speakers in order to get good sound (spreading his arms wide to show just how big). Now we can get the same sound from a tiny set of Bose speakers!"
The best part is, she told that me that her jaw practically hit the floor! She said she just wanted to stand up and shout, "You still need big speakers to get good sound!"
That's my girl!

My Daughter,26 years old, is constantly laughing at kids her age that think their mp3 music thru skullcandy earbuds is bad ****.If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Luddite that I am... were it my daughter, I would be tempted to prompt her to mention Paul Klipsch's well-known remark (on the topic of miniaturized loudspeakers) to the technology teacher.
Said Col. Klipsch,There is no such thing as a miniature 30 hertz wave.
An afternoon with Paul W. Klipsch.

I don't have any kids Ed but that must have been a proud moment.
I think that if you educate anyone, male or female, they will fall in love with music, once again, with the right system. -

My 27 year old nephew is getting married this summer......anyway, during the course of the conversation a "bose system" was discussed. I told him to forget about Bose, that I"ll give him my 3.1tl's and I recommended a Pioneer SC07 receiver. Yep, you guessed it, he doesn't want the 3.1's....they're "too big".

Go a little easy on the teacher - he's obviously got some hearing impairment.

Completely identify with this. I gave my son a nice pair of 8" three ways as "fronts" and a supporting cast of Satellite speakers for his first HT which included two smaller fronts, surrounds and a sub! So I visit him in Boston a few months later, and what do I see? My fronts in the closet and the 'smaller' speakers doing L/R duties in a 5.1 configuration. Girlfriend thought the 8" speakers were too "big". lol
Both are into Apple products. My son "understands" that the smaller speakers are not as good, but he's pretty much whipped at this point. I do like his girlfriend but a man has to stand up for "some" things, no?
