Some people feel they are collectible vintage gear.

Collectable doesn't always equal great sound. Lots of vintage gear is collected, only a handful actually sounds and performs well.

If it's reasonable, buy it and try it. But don't expect much.

It has that Silver Faced Pioneer sound. Could be worth getting to flip for more cash but other than that it is nothing more than a decent amp.

Hey brgman, I have not personally listened to a spec 2 system but I have two Pioneer receivers (sx 1050 and sx 1980) and I will tell you there is nothing available currently that comes close to the Pioneer sound. If you can get the preamp that matches the amp you will most definitely enjoy that system. Good luck.

The recent completed listings on eBay show that 4 of these amps have been sold for $700 - $1,300 in the last ten days. A very powerful amplifier 250 wpc @ 8 ohms and 500 wpc @ 4 ohms. This amp is very comparable to many new amps that you can buy today for much more money. This is one of the best pieces of equipment Pioneer made. It is also very nice looking. You have to be careful with vintage gear some of it can be very good, but some may need repair, cleaning, etc. $850 is a good price if you can demo it and pick it up locally.

I'm sure if it's in good shape it is worth that kind of scratch to a vintage buff but i think if i bought it would be like the Steelers.Old and in the way.:cheesygrin:

May be of average quality to some of you but it is very collectible.

Vintage guys freak for these old Pioneer amps.

I knew a warrant officer when I was in the Army, he had a SX 1980 that reciever was a Beast 250 wpc @ 8 ohms he had 2 pair of huge JBl's hooked up to it a Nak Dragon Cassette deck a pioneer Equalizer and reverb, a pioneer Turntable the lower part of the military housing quarters had the pleasure of hearing him cranking Aldo Nova's Fantasy a time or two the MP's showed up a time or two, those amps and recievers do have a market believe it or not, and they go for a price.
