CSi A4 blending w/A7 ?

At high volumes the A4 seems to get drowned out by the A7's. I have the center ch. on my HK525 set to +8 and my towers at 0. If its mainly vocal its fine but once i get into the action, say a war flick with bombs going off and sergeants shouting orders you can barely make out what they're saying.

Also at those volumes im getting distorted highs. Mainly from the A4 but also a bit form the A7. The clarity just doesn't seem to be there. Its probably a lack of settings on my part. What are proper x over points for HT use. Currently x'd over as follows; A7 @ 80hz, A4 @120hz, rear Monitor 40's @ 120hz, sub @ 80hz. Is that close or am i way off.

All driven by an Emotiva XPA-5 200wpc, bluray via ps3 w/optical out to my HK. Hk is running in Dolby Digital EX. Due to age it doesn't support the new bluray audio formats.

Any suggestions? I believe what i have can sound better than it does.

Ps. Id also like to note i've had the A7's running in stereo with the volume down in the single digits and it sounded amazing and i felt as though it still had more to go. So i feel as though when running in 5.1 something isn't jiving properly.

Maybe its just this HK AVR 525. The voices from the center ch. sound as though their far away off in the distance.

And do cables really matter? I mean as it is right now for HT use im unimpressed for the amount of money ive spent. So i doubt cables are gonna make that dramatic a change. Its more than likely my own in ability to find the right settings or maybe some of the equipment that just doesnt give me the sound im looking for. But why do my A4 and A7 sound better set to large? As soon as i set it to small for HT the quality of sound drops dramatically.

Maybe i should look into a new receiver? HK AVR 525 isnt exactly top of the line. Any suggestions?

BTW for cables im running all off Monoprice.com If i do upgrade im going to go with http://signalcable.com/index.html as their probably the best im gonna get on my budget.

I run my A4 +3db over my towers and I also use the expanded dialog feature on my pio( It spreads the dialog between all three front stage speakers). Dialog comes out like there sitting next to you. If any thing I have the opposite problem and probly should knock my center down a db or 2.

Problem solved! I was trying to use the Expendables movie to setup my HT and WOW is the audio quality on that movie awful. I popped in Rio for the kids tonight and i was blown away. The clarity and richness of the sound was incredible. Everything was crisp clear and distortion free.

Next up Jurassic Park Trilogy. Heres to hoping the audio has been transferred properly...

Lol, I just watched the Expendables today for the first time and I was thinking the same thing!

I had to crank my center up to +8 to hear what the hell anyone was saying. I usually have it set to +1.

That movie was mixed like crap...

Hahaha, dude that was my exact problem. Unfortunately for me it was the first movie i put on this new system so i was rather bummed. How they got away with selling that bluray ill never know. Even the explosions were awful, the whole damn thing IMO.

But Rio made me a happy camper. Ive read that the Jurassic Park transfer is garbage aswell. Hope not as i just bought the Trilogy the other day.
