Bought these suckers for the rear till i get enough coin for A3's. Im extremely impressed with these. For a bookshelf they sound rather nice. I ran them 2.0 and they exceeded my expectations for the price. Also exceeded my expectations in size. They're much bigger than anticipated.

Now does anyone have any tips on wall mounting these suckers or recommend a good solid set of stands 30" or taller. Thought of making my own out of a nice pair of oak replacement legs from a dinning table. They have a nice design and cherry finish. Only issue is how would i secure the speaker to the stand without putting 4 screws through the bottom of the cabinet?

If you don't wanna break the bank, try to get a pair of Sanus Natural Foundation stands (NF30), 30 inches high (well, more like 28 3/4). They can carry speakers up to 25 lbs, but they aren't fillable. However, it does it's job quite well for the price and I wouldn't suggest to get a pair of stands that actually worth more than the speakers itself.

As for a way to secure the speaker, grab a small pack of blu-tac (it's preferable to take the white one, not the blue one... as the white one seems less prone to destroy the veneer if you ever want to remove them from their stands) and create 4 small balls, around the size of a green pea (3/8 diameter). Place 4 of them, at each extremity of the stand's upper plate, and bingo! Let the gravity do it's job, and your speakers are now secure! :cheesygrin:

And that's not a job by the way, just hit google with "blu-tac speakers", you'll have a lot of threads about it. Blue tac = "cheap audiophile's" duck tape.

BTW, many people think that small speaker = small sound... Except in the realm of satellite speakers, I would say that most speakers can create a full sound, and sound good if they're positionned properly. Hell, I've even seen some bookshelf beat the crap out of tower speakers.

Wow that's crazy. I JUST heard about this trick on Sunday! I chuckled thinking it was myth.

Won a pair of Sanus NF30b for $23.25 BNIB on ebay. Im gonna go the blu tac route to secure the speaker to the stand.

Good job rich! I'm sure you'll be happy. Those stands are capable to support a pair of LSi7, so they'll do the job for a pair of Monitor, probably without any wobbling. Is it the best damping stand? No, far from this, but you can then position the speaker and a lot more details than before, so for the money, it's a great buy. If you're on a carpet, use the spikes, if they come with it. Otherwise, either use the spikes with pennies under it (so they don't break your hardwood floor for example) or use the rubber pads. They don't work that well, but it's better than making some holes in your floor.

And I just re-read my message... why the hell did I write job instead of joke? lol...

@Drenis, same here... but once I tried, I was amazed. If it doesn't decouple the speaker from the stand, it will at least help it stay in place. Sure some stands are prone to rattles as they are not fillable/do not weight enough, so even with the blu-tac, it won't be miraculous, but IMO, it does a great job for such a cheap price. Once you step in the 1000$ speaker pair territory, maybe it might be usefull to get both a better pair of stands and something more pricey instead of blu-tac (something that doesn't risk the veneer of your 1000$ speakers...) :P.

Don't forget, try to find the white "blu tac". I used some blue one last time, I'm not convinced it's a good idea... it was hard as $!"/$"/ to remove, and I was sure that I was gonna break something.

Actually I heard of a similar product but it wasn't called blu-tac though. I can't remember the name, might have to email the guy what it was called. But was told to find it online. very similar but doesn't hurt the veneer or leave residue. Was told that it acts like suction cups for speakers to stands.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm trying to decide between the Monitor 40s and Monitor 50s for surrounds.

The Sanus stand is 30", meanwhile the Monitor 50s are 35" by themselves. Does anyone have any experience with either and know if that they are tall enough to reach ear level above a couch? Both options sound too short.

Hi! Well, the stand itself is about 29 inches tall. I had a pair of Polk RTi4 before, and with the stand (29 inches), the tweeter was exactly at ear level, when I was sitting on my couch. However, when I replaced them with a pair of RTi6/RTiA3, it was a little bit above (like 0.5 inch). Considering the monitor 40 have their tweeter in the center, it ends up being at 35-36 inches from the floor level if you do a slight estimate from the pictures. It's preferable to the Monitor 50, which have their tweeter at something like 30 inches from the floor.

So no, the Monitor 50 won't be at ear level. It is even preferable to have your surround tweeter a tad over the ear level if possible, but most of the time, only a pair of satellite would achieve that. A pair of Monitor 40 would be the best pick for your dilemma, while it's not perfect. For example, I had mine at 39-40 inches from floor level.... but as our personal height/couch height is probably different, it's most probably irrelevant.

You could also look for a pair of NF36 stands, which may be 34 to 35 inches tall instead of 29. You could end up having the tweeter at 40 to 41 inches from floor level. Sit on your couch, and let someone use a measuring tape from floor level to your ear level. It could give you an idea of your ideal "tweeter level".

Probably really depends on your furniture. Mine is a little extra poofy, so my stuff needs to generally be a little taller. I also debated about getting the 50's instead, and not worrying about stands. Problem is - the 50's are considerably shorter than my 70's (I used those as comparison for size). The tops are OK for height, but the speakers themselves are too low and would be blasting the side of my couch (the 50's I mean)

Here are my Sanus PF30's with a set fo 40's for you to see. One is tucked behind an end table so all you see is the speaker. The other is a little more open so you can see the stand itself if needed. I also measured, and the tops of the speakers are at 44" (Tweets at 36" center)

This is gonna work out perfect for me then. When i was considering making my own stands i was looking for the tweeter to sit between 34-36". Also basically same setup as me one stand will be in a corner behind an endtable while the other will be exposed on the side of the couch. Thanks guys for the tips.

That's not going to solve the issue though, since those drivers go all the way to the floor, and half of the sound would get sucked up by the couch. I think he's figured out that 40's with stands.
