I am doing some reading on HQCD. I do own some SHM-CD and to me there is a difference in sound vs the original cd's. So I was looking for some new CD's and I came across some that are in HQCD. All look like they are using the same polycarbonate plastic, but might just be 3 different owners of the pattent? SHM being Jvc Blue being Sony, and not sure who has HQCD.
Do you think they are all basically the same? Anyone heard all 3 formats? All 3 are played on a regular cd player.

sure your not mixing apples and oranges? I always thought XRCD was JVC,but what ever the polycarbonate I'm sure is the same on all but maybe SHM-CD from what i understand SHM is super hard material. The XRCD and HDCD were applications to extend the range of CD recordings when SACD was in it's beginnings to try and compete with SACD. Blu-ray I believe uses the same poly material it's just the pits embedded on the readable layer are super small and needs a very fine laser to grab that data. The HDCD also needs the player to have the ability to see that info on the CD to be able to read it. Kind of like the old cassette's when all would play on the deck but if you had the chrome oxide vs metal vs ferric-oxide switch you could take advantage of that tape you are playing.
Then again maybe I'm missing the question completely -
Not blue ray blue spec. from sony
Enjoy superior quality audio with Blu-spec CD format developed by Sony Music Entertainment that applies the manufacturing technologies optimized for the rigorous specifications demanded for Blu-rays. Blu-spec CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players
The high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players. Experience the high-fidelity audio quality of the SHM-CD format
HQCD (HiQualityCD) format achieves high quality audio through the use of a polycarbonate plastic with improved transparency derived from LCD display manufacturing technologies enabling more accurate reading of the CD data. In addition, a special alloy is used as the material of the reflective layer instead of the standard aluminum. HQCD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.
411 i got from cd japan. but is there a difference in the format on sound. it seems outside of the sony one, that the stuff crosses over on the bands so what version to get comes into question.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
