has anyone seen the new sony grand vega sets, i saw the 42" and i was blown away by the sharpness and the clarity,im more impressed with this set than the plasma sets out there, it was right beside a hitachi hdtv both showing hi def video, i couldnt watch the hitachi but man i tell ya that sony was amazing, im hoping my 12 year old 45" pioneer kicks it soon so the wife will let me buy this one, i havent seen the 60" but that would be my choice, $6 grand canadian.

Are you talking about the new LCD projection sets? We just received this one last sunday morning, very cool set indeed.

I bought the 50" rear LCD projection TV in August. I love it! Is does get a little washed out if there is bright light in the room. However, I am very satisfied.

yes its that lcd projection thats 19in deep i think, it blows away plasma, ( it doesnt get that ghosting or phasing during motion or action on the screen) i dont know too much about the technical part but i do know the eye candy part and i have a sweet tooth

I put up our 42" the other day at CC, and I'm not all that impressed. The brightness and color is awesome, but it has the same problems as LCD TVs and low quality (sony, panasonic, Akai) plasmas; it has that damn blocky digital garbled distortion. Personally I'd rather have a reguarly Hitachi ultravision for $1700. Or a Hitachi plasma or Samsung DLP.

It does ghost and phase actually, horribly I might add.

hmmm, wonder how the setup was at cc, were you running a hi def feed or just a cable feed? i wasnt watching cable on the set but i find all hi def ready sets enhance the video noise which makes cable unwatchable in my opinion, for analog my old 45" pioneer has an awesome picture and i dont think i would upgrade until this whole hi def thing with the goverment and cable co. is hashed out.

I have seen both the dlp and the new grand vegas. The new Sony's just release last week and coming up soon are an improvement over last years models. The dlp is awsome. It becomes a toss-up and depends on who did the settings at the shop. Sony does have a 70" Grand Vega coming out and it should be nice with the XBR label. Sony has been working on SXRD their answer to dlp, but as of yet nothing out to buy. Remember, DLP uses one chip with a rotating color wheel in most sets. Sony LCD has three chips. I have a decent 35" XBR tube that I will use and wait for the technology to improve or the widespread use of HDTV.

    Hope some of this helps.

I saw some mentioned the Hitachi Ultravision with a HD Tuner built in. How does this TV compare to the dlp TV's? Also, what are some recommendations on 60" and plus TV's?

All these TV’s you talk about are good quality, but I am waiting to see the Toshiba's 57HLX82. It is a 57" liquid crystal that has 3 LCOS chips in it; much better quality than the three LCD chips Sony uses. Oh yeah, plus its true 1080p technology, none of this up-convert business. Right now you can get one from Toshiba for $8,999.99 WAY to expensive and big to fit at my house :(

Gotta love the 36inch sony tube hdtvs. Amazing picture quality. I did see those Sony grand lcds, def an amazing picture, and i didnt see any ghosting or blockiness that someone in the thread mentioned. I was quite impressed, more so then most plasmas that were on display at the local circuit city.

36inches is plenty big depending on room size, no point in a 50 inch widescreen in a 12 x 12 room, so for picture quality tube tvs are still amazing.

haha i know scott im just messing with ya too...but i don think id enjoy having to turn my head back and forth to see the whole screen :D , by the way...how good is the picture on a screen that friggin big, i imagine for some video games it would be hell to see anything clearly. I played on a projector of some sort and the picture was to dark, and when you tried to brighten it up, it lost tons of detail. oh well just curious.
